Liners on the High Seas 🚢

Our last stop before our 7 days at sea.. and I have a question that I won’t see answers to (I may sign in one more time this week). But we had one day at sea before we got to Maderia, Portugal (Funchal) and I didn’t like it. We LOVE LOVE LOVE our last stop in Funchal; it’s beautiful, pictures don’t do it justice. What I didn’t like is how crowded the boat is w/ everyone on board on our sea day. I know, I know, what I can do? What can I say, Iā€m an introvert at heart.
I’ve decided that since we are up b4 sunrise and meet up w/ our coffee clutch (in the bar) at 0500 and hang about, walk dodging all the speed walkers on the promenade, until lunch, then hide in room until dinner I might make it  . All the activities we’re interested start when we’re already asleep. Jeez do we sound old? We have just gotten used to the very-loud-rising-sun waking us up everyday. Any suggestions from others?

some pics from Funchal today:

checking out the marina for next winter

accidental fence placement

BTW, we noticed that bickering couples ā€˜sound’ the same in every language

What does this mean?

The sun is loud in the morning… it’s very bright  it’s forced us to be early risers.

Will the curtains not close well? Are you an aft cabin?

Right?! We were ready to move there! We got tired of crowds too. We also are early risers and would find a pretty place for coffee until the people started to show up. Then we would just wander the less busy spots, the movie theater was usually pretty empty but it was freezing in there! Won’t help you much but we took some cards and dice and would play games in our room or watch a movie to get away from the crowds on our sea days. Then for us the hour or so before our later dinner the ship seemed to quiet down because half of the ship was at dinner. (not sure if other lines work like this  )

Over the weekend, I helped DH book a 5-night NCL cruise on Escape for him and DS23 to celebrate DS finishing college. They will travel in May. The PIF date is JANUARY. This seems remarkably early for a PIF date!

What have been the PIF dates for your cruises?

For some reason 120 days in advance is stuck in my mind, but I’m not sure if that was the pay in full day or something else!

My final payment is May 3 for our August 1 cruise on Princess, so roughly similar.

This is great Intel! We are hoping to watch Zootopia 2 while on the ship…sounds like we need to dress warmly!!!

What about the main theater?

Not as cold. The atrium was also freezing so if you plan to hang out there for a while take a jacket

Ours have all been Disney. First one was still in some lingering resumption after the Long Pause and I think that one was only 60 days. But ever since it’s been 90 Days for less than 7 nights and 120 for 7 nights.

BUT now that our family is Gold Castaway Club, if we PIF by 105 days we can start booking earlier than Silver Castaway Club (& first-timers). We haven’t always PIF at that 105 if it works better for our budget to pay at 91 days (so we can still take a peek ahead of Silvers in case we can still snag a Palo brunch and/or Royal Tea for just some of us). That way we are only paying a day earlier than PIF instead of 15 days earlier than due (which can be super helpful if that 15 days earlier falls in our bill heavy side of the month).

Our next cruise though, we are going with family and booked one kid in another room for them to be able to get some status perks for booking so we will be paying it off 105 days earlier. And we booked with a TA so that means coordinating a few days in advance of that with her to make sure it’s no issue. But I’m not even sure what the extended family wants to try for. I think we want to treat them to Palo brunch (but they don’t know that yet).

Our trips on RCL have PIF dates 90 days before cruise date.

LOL…. we checked out the local marina and started charting a course to sail there. So, beautiful there. There were some Candians that we met that are planning to return there too for a longer stay

Your ideas help, thank you. WE are doing much of what you are already, since we seem to be out of sync w/ more others and their sleep/party schedule. We did bring cards, games w/ us too

Thank you,

Arrived in Miami! Waiting for our call to disembark. Our 7 days at sea was sooooo clam and peaceful.

Lots of retired military on board. They had a mil reception; Navy had the most present followed by the USAF (woot!) Anyway, the Navy guys told us that the Navy actually issues seasick pressure bands for your wrists; in case anyone is looking for a drug free solution. I get seasick in sloppy seas so I’ll be trying them out when we return. We are looking to possibly return to the EU, in March, on another relocation cruise…. why not?!?

This is humorous. DH steadfastly avoided the idea of sailing on cruise ships saying he’d had enough cruising in the Navy.

That’s what I would think too

I’m not opposed to being on boats on water but nothing I’ve seen or read prompts me to seek time on a cruise ship.

Except two of my sisters like cruises and one wants to give it a try. And I enjoy time with my sisters
