Let’s all help @mousematt plan a COVID-free vacation :)

I’m watching last week’s Real Time with Bill Maher. The panel are discussing COVID.

In the background, I have my “you will definitely catch COVID” trip this week, and two (maybe three) of my four friends currently have COVID.

Maher is arguing that it is time to let grown-ups be grown-ups, assess risk and get on with their lives.

I’m triple-vaccinated. I have four — four! — different types of mask. I have antimicrobial wipes that are “proven to kill 99.999% of germs” and I just took delivery of some pocket-sized hand-sanitizer that “kills 99.99% of viruses and bacteria”. I am going to make on-the-ground judgements about where I go and what I do.

Damnit! Isn’t that enough? When else in my lifetime did we take such steps? (Well, I guess I did just buy sunblock and a hat.)

Maher says that overwhelmingly the people who die of COVID are either old or vulnerable. I’m 52. But technically obese.

One of my friends who currently has COVID is my age. A little overweight. She said she had a sore throat. She’s quarantining in her bedroom because her husband is in a vulnerable group. Under normal circumstances she’d suck it up and get on with it.

Are we all afraid now of catching any disease at all?

Ugh. That damned COVID test tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll be fine. And once I am, I’m going to Disney World: COVID, crowds, Genie, Chapek and @JuliaMc … all be damned. I have to live my life.

Or unvaccinated.

Look, I just got back from WDW. I think you should go! Take the precautions you feel warranted and have a good time. No one here is judging you! If you get sick, it will be a bummer, but not the end of the world. Why? Because you are vaccinated! Just have a back-up plan in case you do get sick and need to delay your flight home.

Damn. That was his main point. I forgot to mention it.

You are vaccinated and will take precautions. Live your life. Have fun. Do the Oga’s after park close. But for heaven’s sake, do not buy those crocs.

I do really like them but I will find it impossibly hard to justify buying them. I bought some Disney Crocs in October and really do not need a new pair. And certainly not a pair I would ever dare wear outside of Disney World.

I take a book every time and it never comes out either. I have a hard time reading on the plane because planes cause me anxiety (not flying, people that close) and so movies on the iPad or music do help me escape. Once I’m wherever I’m going I’m too busy to read. But every time cuz ya never know. Lol

Here is my personal opinion on the matter… it is time for adults to be adults. And by that I mean being mature enough to know your person risk and take appropriate precautions. But also to have the common sense to stay home when you know you are sick, limit exposure to others. We are at the point where everyone should be carrying on with their lives taking appropriate measure for them. Our CDC is back tracking on some of our numbers and how the death count was actually initially counted. So this is such a fluid thing. It’s still new. Be safe, be cautious but dont be stupid. I hardly count traveling vaxed using masks, sanitizer and common sense stupid. We need to live our lives but also take precautions. We can do both. And it sounds like you are. There is risk in life with everything you do. You can’t make a hidey hole in your apartment becuase you might get hit by a bus. But you can leave your apartment and take precautions to watch for the bus. Take a deep breath, go on your trip, be safe and enjoy it. We are on this earth a very short time.

Update from Calvin

“I am not remotely suspicious. I’m not an idiot: I know exactly what you’re doing.”

Does he put his toys in your suitcase? Like “I’m going too, right?!?”? That’s what our dog does.

Or is he helping you pack so he can see Sarah?

(I think my dog would help us pack to get to her doggy camp sooner.)
