I knew you were going to mention cargo shorts! I feel like I know you guys so well
SIDE NOTE: How weird (ironic?) is it that I asked this question at the same time Disney made an announcement about wagons? I had no idea it was a thing when I asked this question and feel an immediate need to change my reservation to a stroller as to not be “one of those people” in the parks.
Soooo…
Over on a dvc Facebook this debate has been raging. Someone who is reasonably well connected called magic kingdom VP Jason Kirks office for clarification. This is what they reported verbatim.
“… I then called Jason Kirk’s office and a very friendly CM told me that stroller wagons are officially not allowed as they are wagons, but unofficially have been allowed for about five years now. They remain conflicted on the stroller wagons - not due to footprint - length and width comparable with strollers. BUT two big issues they are evaluating. First is how much people put in these stroller wagons and have to be searched by security. Some are really abusing this “feature” of stroller wagons. Second is the vertical height with the canopy. When parked in stroller parking, it makes it hard for others to find their “shorter” strollers. It’s like if they allowed motorhomes in the standard parking lots. It would be very hard for people to find their cars behind the motorhome. For this reason, they have not updated their policies to allow stroller wagons. They want the flexibility to limit these in the future. Like all policies, Disney reserves the right to change them at any time. But for now, stroller wagons are unofficially permitted and recent announcements do not change this position.”
So, looks like for now they are go, but they could change their position on them at any time.
And, i honestly get their concerns. I imagine that a person lugging tons of stuff in there really slows down the security line. The parking issue could be termed by having a designated keenz area.
I am definitely not someone who wants to load down my wagon (see: original post subject line) and I am a very friendly stroller driver, so I am not one of the annoying wagon-pulling-bag-stuffing-security-line-nuisance people… but I completely understand the issue with these things. I guess I have a decision to make…
This is the most “Disney” response I have ever seen.
I feel like people think the stroller wagons are larger because of how they are oriented. I have a rolling bag for hang ups that is absolutely within air line carry-on dimensions, but I am always asked to gate check it. I think having the wheels on the long side throws people off and makes them think it is bigger than it is.
I had not thought of the problem of height. That is an interesting point!
The Keenz is smaller than a double stroller. I’ve seen photos and video reviews that show side by side comparisons. The measurements are smaller. Honestly, it’s the canopy that makes them seem bigger.
I seriously had no idea about the controversy when I first asked the question. I was just excited for my boys to have a wagon and the thought of not having to carry a big backpack.
