It’s a $95 annual fee but I get about $1000 in rewards, of which about $180 can be attributed to the extra 3% on groceries.
Thanks, I’ve been trying to persuade my wife that we bump up to the Preferred card and the extra rewards will pay for the annual fee. I’ve got to sit down with the annual statement and do a little math to convince her.
And if I recall correctly there was a $200 credit after a certain spend, so I figured that covered 2 years of annual fees. Actually during the past year they eliminated the department store 3% in favor of 3% back on transportation- ride shares, parking, train etc. I mostly just use this car for groceries and gas when it applies. The 6% back of groceries is nice with a family of 7!
I got the premium card with a $250 sign up bonus ($49 annual fee). Mostly I got it for the 10% off tours since we are doing the keys to the kingdom tour in October. I figured since the sign up fee was 250 for premium and 200 for the no fee I’d go with the premium since it gets 2% on Disney purchases. My daily use card gets 3% on entertainment for no annual fee but having 2% with 6 months interest free for a package could be tempting since we are going in October. I will cancel the premier card before the next annual fee. I don’t go to Disney every year so I just apply and get the bonus prior to each trip.
I have 3 room only reservations booked on it and haven’t paid any interest.
Since we’re talking about Disney Visa…how soon before our trip should I request our Disney Rewards card?
It depends. How are you planning on using the Rewards. Spending it on items in the park, you can wait til you get there. You can get a Rewards card at the Customer Service Desk at any of the parks. That’s what I did. Then call the 1-800 number to activate the card and started using.
You can use the money on the Rewards card to pay for your WDW Vacation package. So if you want to use it that way, then get it about a month before the final payment is due.
get it whenever you want. You can always transfer any further accrued reward monies online to the card you have in hand.
Makes sense. I forgot that you can do that!
How quickly after you cancel a card can you reapply for the sign-on bonus? I’ve had the card for a number of years (mainly for the 2% back on Disney purchases, early access to resort discounts, and the character meets) and had not really thought about this route. I still have 9+ months until our trip but wondered about timing for reapply, spend, and posting the rewards for the sign-on bonus.
I have literally called to cancel card, hung up, opened a new browser tab and reapplied with my wife’s referral link - no problems. If you feel that is too aggressive, waiting a few days won’t hurt since you have awhile before your trip.
I think it took about a week to 10 days to get my wife’s card after we reapplied for her a few months ago.
Just remember they start the clock for you to earn the reward from the application date (not when you receive the card) AND they start the 24 month clock for reapplying from the date you EARN the last reward, which may be a few months from the application date. #tricky
I’m actually waiting for my last rewards to post on my card right now and will be going through it again.
That is good info to have. Will definitely do this!
Yeah - I panicked when I realized I hadn’t ordered my card about 2 weeks before our trip, but when I went to that page I realized I could add the monies to the old card, which I just so happened to know the location of.
They are also super nice on the phone, BTW.
In 2018 we got to DLR and realized we did NOT have the new card we had ordered with close to $1000 on it. It was sitting at home in the same. I called Chase Rewards almost in tears from a cell phone outside Space Mountain. She was kind and could tell I was close to freaking out and gently assured me everything was going to work out and she wouldn’t hang up until it was. Since we DID have an old card on us with a small amount of money, she boop transferred all the money to the card for us. Had we not had one, she said she could tell me how to get one (presumably somewhere in DLR).
I am getting close to being able to open some new cards that I last churned in 2018… not… quite… yet.
Hmm. I just logged into my Disney Visa account and discovered something I never noticed before. They have some really good offers for various places that expire. One of them was 10% back on purchases from Kroger (up to $7). It expires in 2 days, so I’ll have to try to make it there to do some supplemental grocery shopping. But that’s like getting a $7 coupon…I just didn’t know about it! I’ll have to check back more often to see if anything else pops up I might use. There are like 20+ offers at the moment.
Wow really? So I can request a card then I can add if there’s more before I leave on to that card?
I have my rewards card so I go in and transfer all but $10 a couple of months before a trip. Then I transfer that last $10 and anything else I have earn over those last couple of months after my last statement before my trip.
Yep - That’s our tactic: Order the card well before we leave, then send whatever rewards we earn right up to the trip to that card.
An important trick to use: You can only request $10 or more in rewards, so when you do the initial card request, leave at least $10 in the rewards acct. Then, no matter how little you earn after that you can request all of the rewards be added to the card.
On our first trip I did not do that and had something like $9.98 in rewards I couldn’t get for the trip.
Good tip! I’ll order my card!
I was worried about waiting and not getting it but so want to use them up since will be awhile before our return!
This is great. Thanks!
