In either case, knowing how you all roll, I would think the room itself doesn’t matter too much, since you will be “parking it up” most of the time? So, I’d go with whatever is cheaper.
Personally, I’m not into the Sports theming (that’s just me), but honestly, the differences are minimal in the rooms themselves. Being preferred will save you a few steps…but honestly, if you are putting in 20,000+ steps a day in at the parks, what’s another 300 steps for the extra walking to get to the buses in the morning?
Since ASSports is smaller, I would even consider a standard room there if it saved even more.
All Star Sports preferred is about $300 more than All Star Music standard.
My hesitation with just doing ASMusic standard to save money is that Country Fair is far from food and can be far from parking per Google Maps. We will want to drive daily, but may also want breakfast. That would be a hustle to the dining hall and back to our car. @drvillarejos did suggest just parking out near the dining hall.
Good point about “what’s another 300 steps?”
If we do Sports preferred, however, I could request Building 1 and be close to food, pool, and parking.
It seems that way, but I also could be missing something that seems obvious to others that I wouldn’t think of with my minimal WDW experience.
I’ve booked both for now.
I’d still be open to a DVC for part of our because it’s a lot of days in one place. You are correct that we don’t plan to be at the hotel much, but we do have to “rest” days. (Rest = mini golf or water parks…?)
It’s $254.11 more for Sports preferred over Music standard.
Ten nights. I just keep telling myself the rooms are no smaller than a stateroom on a ship, and we will barely be in them. The split bath will help a lot. I wish these rooms had a table, but there are benches and such out in the open if DH wants to take his coffee out in the AM. The biggest challenge will be to personal quiet time.
We are going to use the 6-day park hoppers from Traveling Homeschoolers, but not use LL passes.
It’s okay. Not all murphy beds fold up to reveal a table. Some turn into a couch, for example. When we stayed at Pop in 2020, one of the two rooms had BOTH beds that folded up…one turned into a table, the other a couch!
That’s how the one side of the family suite looked when we arrived last fall. The other room had a king. I realized what was going on as I was absorbing the unexpected pixie dust, but my girls were wholly confused about where they were going to sleep.
Yeah. We stayed in an ASMusic Family suite this past January for part of the trip.
In the case of Pop, it was two connecting rooms. One room had a king bed, and the other had two beds, but both folded up. It was quite nice…basically acted like a family suite. (Although, it was also twice the price as a single room, so, you know, there’s that!)
Anyhow, IF you decide to book part of the trip at another resort, then perhaps saving the money by going with ASMusic would allow you to apply some that savings to the extra cost. But otherwise, it really does sound like ASSports is the right choice for you all.
The All Stars are small but I felt they were even a little bit bigger than the DCL staterooms. With one of the beds up though, there is definitely a table (but then no other couch or seating besides the bed). There are benches yes, and lots of seating in the food court.
I think for 10 days the preferred location is worth it to be closer to the food, extra space, and your car each day. If you were to break it up into 2 stays though and would be switching to something more relaxing after the All Stars, it would be nice to save what you can and start in the Music standard.
So that’s my vote, Sports preferred if you’re staying with all 10 days there. But if you’ll get a split stay going, then start out at the Music Standard.
Music standard is the worst for proximity to the buses and main lobby. Sports or Movies standard are marginally better because of how those resorts are laid out.
I would have MUCH preferred a sofa to a table. We’ve only had tables at Pop. Was there anything note worthy about the room type with the sofa? I’d love to figure out how to snag one. Wonder if TP room finder shows this?
It was a connecting room to a room with a king. We didn’t request it. We just requested two connecting rooms, but got upgraded to the preferred section and was pleasantly surprised when we ended up with a king room. This was in 2020.
We have stayed in both of these and I found it preferable for being close to parking (easy to load/unload the car and shortest way back to the room at the end of our theme park all day crew) and it was never very far at all even from the back buildings to the lobby/gift shop/food court, transportation, pool or laundry.
Do you remember if the King was accessible? I know you can’t book King as a room category. I’ve never bothered to request it. Curious how one gets a room with a sofa, lol.
Um. Well, book connecting standard rooms during a pandemic, and wait for them to upgrade you? We were just lucky. I can’t even remember where our room was, other than being in the building closest to the Skyliner someplace!
I don’t remember if it was accessible or not I am afraid.
