Hoping Mrs. Incredible will be my spiritual guide....a mom leaves dad at home and takes on the World with two toddlers (a trip report)

Ok. So we went back to the hotel for a nap (a whopping 45 minutes). Then rode the escalators, ate lunch, and rode the escalators again. After finally getting ready to go back to the park, the heavens opened up for a brief but substantial storm. We waited it out under the bus stop awning then made our way down the walkway.

I know some folks have been reporting non security. At the walkway screen, you carry your bags through but you can’t have any electronics in the bags so chargers, cell phones, cameras, and also sunscreen bottles (if metal), need to come out - or just be visible in the stroller if you have one. Also, they did not take DS1’s temperature either time.

So we got to the park around maybe 3:45 and with lines still long, all the play spaces for kids closed, we grabbed some sorcerer cards. DD4 really attached to them and it was a good diversion. We would’ve kept doing them, too, except they kept sending us back to the beginning.

We did catch the villains cavalcade and a not so scary one as well.

Was hoping for a Nightmare Before Christmas since DD has just gotten into it. Maybe Tuesday.

We decided to head to Small World. Posted wait 30 min. TP said 33. We waited about 25. Plexiglass dividers inside were good - except that when you have a not quite two year old who loves to run away from you, they’re not so great because the bottoms are tall enough for him to fit under but not tall enough for me, so I wouldn’t have been able to catch him and drag him back to line like I did underneath the line dividers outside the building… so that meant I had to hold that munchkin for a good portion of those 25 minutes. And he’s not getting lighter - especially after all the ice cream I’m letting him eat.

Anyway, small world! DS didn’t go on it last time we were here but he loved it. In fact, tonight as he was laying in bed he started singing it and then I started singing it and he said, “Small World. This good song.”

We headed over to Under the Sea. Posted time 20 minutes. TP said 18. Waited 11. And then the CM proactively offered us a second lap so we rode it twice in a row.

I was disappointed that Pinocchio Village Haus had closed already for some reason because kids wanted pizza for dinner and I wanted the not poisonous apple cupcake. But I grabbed a turkey leg from Liberty Market and while this isn’t technically a cupcake, it’ll do:

I got the kids some Mac n cheese from cosmic ray’s and we ate in there. They got a kick out of the alien dj guy. I look forward to when they’re a bit older and can appreciate the droid dj in Oga’s instead.

And by the time we were done, we got to see MK at night - a first for both of them. And my first time during Halloween. I had no idea the Mickey pumpkins lit up! I’ll say, too, that the castle and it’s new paint job look awesome at night.

And so that’s day 1 in the books! Kiddos are finally asleep and I didn’t kill either one of them. I’d call it a success! Total step count was 13,044 but my stupid Apple Watch is telling me I only got 14 minutes of exercise. I wish there was some way to inform said watch that I was either pushing 80 pounds or carrying 35 pounds for about 12,000 of those steps…surely that has to translate into more than 14 minutes?!

To recap:

Rides completed - PPF x2, PotC, JC, Carpets, Contemporary escalators x7, IASW, UtS x2

Sugar consumed - pumpkin spice waffle ice cream sundae, dole whips, one Axe Bride’s Wedding Cake, and my kids each drank about a gallon of chocolate milk

Animal Kingdom tomorrow! Thanks for following along.

Awww! How sweet!

It’s cake that will fit in a cup, so it is a cupcake.

Glad you had a great day!

I am super impressed with and inspired by you! Only recently have I gotten to the point where I would consider going on an overnight-airplane-involved-vacation alone with my kids and they are 5 and 3.5 years old…and I still tend to hold to my ideal adult to child ratio of at least 3:2. Looks like you guys are having so much fun! Enjoy AK tomorrow!

Me, too! And mine are 30, 27, and 18! Seriously, though, my older two would have needed to be 14 and 11 before I could’ve handled that trip with them as kids.

That’s fabulous!

Word…

As my husband tells me constantly, “It only counts if the Fitbit logs it, right?”.

Can you hand me one of those apples? I got a place I can put it for him.

Looks like a very successful first day!! Great job Mom!! Love how your DD4 is serious about enjoying her Disney day - out of the itchy sparkles and into the comfy Hannas! Those are the best!!

It’s 5:50 and the kids are still sleeping. On an ordinary day, I’d be ecstatic and taking advantage of the time to catch a few extra zzzs myself. However, on this particular day, Animal Kingdom decided to open at 7am (only changed yesterday), so I’m fretting over whether to wake them or not. There’s only two rides we’ll do today - Navi and Safari - but still would be great to knock them out before lines build on this holiday.

Trying to channel some “go with the flow” mentality. Still makes me feel all anxious.

FWIW, safari lines were very low all day yesterday (with 7am opening). DW did it at 9:00 or so and walked all the way on. We all did it at 2pm or so and waited 10-15 minutes.

DW did Navi at about 10:30 and waited 30 minutes with an expected wait of 50minutes.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Update: my getting out of bed woke them up enough and they were incredible sports getting ready so quickly! Down to the waiting bus at 6:20 and were the last ones on. We left right away!! I may have told them they could have chocolate milk and donuts for breakfast if they cooperated…

We’re here!

Sad to report, @OBNurseNH, that the sacred space is not open for pre-dawn cocktails. Because sipping one of those while people sprint toward avatar would be a fantastic activity.

First in line for Navi!

Yaaaay so exciting!!

Empty park = best park

‘Course downside is safari isn’t open until 8. So we headed back to Creature Comforts to pick up a snack for later:

This is a known issue. But I agree it could only serve to elevate the morning

Have a great day in the Best Park!!

I think that normally means you’re being a bad parent. But the rules of parenting magically change when you enter the most magical place on earth. There, chocolate milk and donuts are health foods!

When I was a kid, we had a vacation rule of “Nothing healthy” We didn’t truly eat junk constantly. But, yes, vacation rules are different.
