We’ve been to WDW several times, but the last time was over 10 years ago, so there are some new attractions. I’m going with my adult dd next month and am trying to figure out what I can and can’t ride. Ten years ago I rode and liked everything except RnRC (wasn’t brave enough) and Tower of Terror (rode and hated). I also hated the Simpsons ride at Universal, even though it’s a simulator. I am fine on Splash/Tiana since I know when that drop is coming and I can prepare for it. Not so with ToT. I’m trying to decide if I can do the following:
Mine Train (should be okay?)
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avatar
Tron
Rock n Roller Coaster
Slinky Dog Dash (also looks okay)
Millenium Falcon
Rise
Do you think any of these pose an issue for me? Thanks in advance for any help.
I feel like you should be fine on all of those if your only worry is big drops. Just know that RNRC is a rough coaster. I don’t even ride it anymore, but if someone wanted me to ride with them I would only do so as the last ride of the day. It knocks my head around too much and gives me a headache.
I don’t see any issues…although, as @TheSafetyLady mentioned, RnRC is quite rough and while I might ride it, I usually don’t because it is so rough.
Not on your list is Expedition Everest. There is a “drop”, I suppose, but the way the ride is, it doesn’t really feel like a drop because it isn’t really that big, and you go into it quickly and knowingly. If you have issues with EE, it would more likely be due to the backwards part in the darkness. It is an incredible ride, worth doing if you haven’t. Even our kids at like 6 years old rode it without issue.
Thanks! I have done EE several times and enjoy it, so I didn’t include it on the list. I think Thunder Mountain is kind of rough, but I absolutely love it. How much “rougher” is RnRC? Maybe I won’t end up doing it.
A LOT! Not even in the same catergory. BTMRR is like sleeping in a hammock compared to how battered you get on RnR
SPOLIER -
I’m sorry, but there is a VERY small and quick drop that happens “unexpectedly” at the very end. It’s only about 5 feet, so not like ToT. However, it is a “drop” that you can’t see coming.
I don’t do drops. Splash was a once and never again. EE is better some days altho the backwards part is fine. Have always passed on Tower of Terror.
Of your list I’ve only been on RnRC and Cosmic Rewind/Guardians. Neither one has a drop that I’m aware of. (Sometimes Pirates is too droppy.)
I’ll probably not do FoP or RotR. Idk about Slinky - I didn’t care for Barnstormer. I was in the last of the train with a 6 or 7 yo kid who said, this is a ride for kids?!?!!
Thanks. I may skip RnRC due to the input given here, but I’m happy that Guardians sounds like it’ll be fine. I liked Barnstormer, so maybe Slinky will be okay? A lot of people talk about the drop on Pirates, but I’ve ridden it so many times and honestly can’t even remember a drop. It must be gentle enough that it doesn’t phase me.
If you didn’t like Simpsons, you may hate this…I think it is worth riding at least once, but there are the sensations of dropping as you fly. It is less simulator-y than Simpsons though.
I can’t do real simulators like Simpsons - I do Star Tours once every 5 years to remind myself why I never do it.
The first time I rode Flight of Passage, I got sick. But since then with a little Dramamine and knowing how to minimize the effects, I am totally fine on it. I think it’s cool enough that it’s worth trying once or twice for people prone to motion sickness.
I think you’d be fine on this if you are ok with Splash and PotC. It’s very tame motion-wise. And if you are concerned, you can do some research to know when to be ready for minor motion.
I’ve discovered my problem with roller coasters are the straight drops; small drop and bank is OK. Therefore, I’m fine with Mine Train, Big Thunder. I immediately regretted getting on Slink Dog; it has a straight drop that I seriously didn’t like. I’m not sure it would be classed a “big” drop, so it depends on what your particular issue with drops is.
Star Tours - so true! I suck in up and ride it because, “It wasn’t that bad last time, was it?” Well - in DLR in May DD18 wanted to ride. We got 3/4 of the way through the ride and it glitched. They took us off and put us on ANOTHER ONE! I had to ride 1.75 times!
70% of the time when I get off the ride, another ride would completely do me in! Sometimes I barely squeak by without needing a stop at the nearest garbage can.
I just remembered that actually happened to my family on Transformers at UOR - there was glitching the first time through so they let us ride again without getting off. Transformers isn’t quite as bad for motion sickness for me as Star Tours, but would still be quite precarious. Thankfully I was able to exit the ride before they launched it again.
