Going to Disney to deal with grief?

We got one… but it’s all up to the ex still. I don’t want to go into detail here because it’s just too damn scary.

I am so sorry that you have to deal with this too. What a lovely story about the dress- hugs.

The dress and the story are perfect with what your trips have been. I have tears in my eyes picturing the event. And more so that she will have a piece of Disney and your time together and love with her.

Sending you hugs and support to get through a difficult day tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the difficulites that death brings. It always seems to bring the worst out in people. Wishing you the best.

We are here for you and if you still have my number and need a friend I am here, even if we did not get to meet.

A beautiful story about your mom and her dress. You are a stranger to me and yet I can easily tell how you adored and treasured your mom. My prayers are with you as you lay her to rest tomorrow.

@Randall1028 you sure have a beautiful way of relating a story. What a wonderful memory and I just love that you got the dress for her. I’m sorry she didn’t get to wear it before now but I’m sure she’s so very pleased that you will make sure she wears it. Part of me wonders if she knew deep in her soul and that’s why she was so drawn to it. I think you’ve made a beautiful choice.

I’m sorry for the awfulness you are going through that extends beyond her loss. Death seems to bring out the worst in terrible people. I hope things come out alright, but even if they don’t seem to, as they say “Karma’s a bitch.”

Sending you all kinds of strength for tomorrow. You’ll be on my heart all day.

That is a beautiful story about the dress. I now have tears in my eyes. I’m sure she would be thrilled that you chose that for her to wear. I think it is sweet that you bought her the dress and it has such a sentimental story to go with it. I’m sorry she never had a chance to wear it until now. My heart hurts for you with what you are dealing with both with saying goodbye and dealing with her ex. You will be in my thoughts tomorrow.

I’ve been checking in off in on to see how you were doing. This is such a beautiful story. Of your mom, of your relationship with her.
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with not just her death, but with horrible people. As others have said, death often brings out the worst.

I am so sorry to hear this about your mother. I am sending tons of love and light your way to get you through these trying days ahead. Know that you are an amazing son, many of us moms here can only wish to have someone as wonderful, attentive, and caring as yourself when we reach the later years of our lives.

I’m sorry it’s all so complicated. I will be thinking of you today. That’s a lovely story and speaks volumes about your mum who raised such a loving son.

new here…

I wanted to say how sorry I am for the loss of your mom. My mother passed away almost six years ago in March, but I’m here to plan her grandkids’ first Disney trip (she would have been alll over Touring Plans and Mousesavers). So I know I’m going to be feeling her absence when we get down there.

I’m glad you were able to get her the dress. I’m thinking of you on a difficult day.

In response to your original question, I found an essay by a writer who took her family to WDW soon after her father’s death:

So sorry to hear this. If Disney helps you, go for it.

@Randall1028 I love that she will be wearing the dress you bought for her on your trip. Very fitting indeed. I hope your service will go ok.

So sorry about the ex.

I have not been a “regular” on here, but I want to offer my condolences about the loss of your mother. I agree with many others, that if a trip Disney would help in the grieving process and you’re able to do it then you should.

Speaking from one son to another, I hope that I may as good of a son to my mother as you were to yours.

Not… well. The drama of the husband continues, but at least he granted us the ability to bury mom as she wished(as it seems right now anyway, instead of signing official documents saying to such, he drafted his own that said the same thing, so now we’re waiting on the lawyer to verify that what he signed is allowed. So there’s that.

Worse, I came to the realization the other night that I can’t maintain both her house(well, MY house actually, it’s a long story) and my apartment, so it looks like I now need to end my lease early and move. Which adds to the awfulness of it all. I hate where the house is and I don’t want to go, but it’s either that or sell the house at a major discount because it’s a major mess right now. And with the drama of the husband, I can’t even sell right now without him possibly getting half, even though he shouldn’t be entitled to any of it. I can’t even clean out the house right now so as to make it livable for me because of this.

The upshot is if I do move, my monthly expenses drops to about a third of what it is now(read: more trips become available). But it also means a lot of work on the house must be done.
