Festival Shrinkflation!

I appreciated that @CrispyLemons posted this today. Shocked not shocked describes my reaction.

Off to do some math on a single night dining plan…

I guess I am kinda surprised Disney did not think to do this years ago.

Question about the cashless payment. Disney Visa rewards cards count as a credit card/acceptable form of payment?

Now, I think I will go back to my Food and Wine app and reduce my wish list. Does anyone know the tax rate? Although I can figure it out by looking at @CrispyLemons numbers.

God, maybe they could add one more popup ad to that page too.

Agreed!!

I know WDW as a whole has two different tax rates because of the two counties, I think one is 6.75% and one is 7% but I’m not positive.

I would say yes because it’s not green cash.

I always switch to reader view when I encounter that. All that movement makes me dizzy.

I still have a festival wristband gift card that I won through one of TPs locker lotteries a few years ago. I will just reload that!

I checked yesterday. I have $99 on my rewards card. I am planning dinner/lunch on my solo trip. I think it will work!

When I’ve used a Disney Rewards Redemption card at a booth, I always tell them it’s a Disney Rewards Redemption card, because the cashier keys it in differently from a credit or debit card.

Yes, discovered this the hard way. You would assume that it would work the same as a debit card or that cast members would recognize it, but that isn’t the case. Just letting them know ahead of time makes for an easy transaction.

I guess I always thought it included tax, so when budgeting, my spreadsheet always calculates tax, although I use whichever tax rate is higher of the two because I have no idea how to map location within WDW. I guess that gives me a bit of leeway.

I guess this also changes the dining plan math since that does include tax?

It used to include tax!

Precisely. I have a single night stay that I could use for a whole day of Epcot snacks and half of our dinners at Flying Fish, but I don’t think we would eat 8 quick service meals so I am not sure it will work out.

Sorry, I meant that I thought it DIDN’T include tax. :woman_facepalming:t2:

I’ve been adding tax on my budget at a 13.5% rate. Is that right?

Most Disney World restaurants and stores are located in Orange County where the tax rate is 6.5%. Some of the hotels like Disney’s All Star Resort are located in Osceola County which has a slightly higher tax rate of 7.5%. You should be safe to assume between 6.5% and 7.5% on all purchases while you are on vacation. In Florida, restaurants are treated the same as merchandise from a taxing perspective so all of your meals will have the same tax applied to the bill.

ETA: I copied this from a Mom’s panel post.

I had to really concentrate on this because I was thinking that you don’t have to pay additional tax when using the dining plan. :woman_facepalming:t2:

Of course, I figured out that you were talking about the math to determine if it’s worth it.

If you only get one snack credit a day and you can’t break up the meal credits into snacks anymore, I don’t even see how dining plan works for festivals. Give us back the before-times dining plans, Disney!!!

All my receipts from this year’s FARTS have 6.5%

Well, they are frequently wrong. I’d rather ask AI, which has a slightly better chance of being correct.

I wonder where I got the 13.5%? I thought I calculated from my receipts from October. Well, that just means I built in a cushion…

Perfect! Confirmation! I do calculate my dining budget with 7 for a little buffer.

I did the math for a 1 night stay (QS plan). With the mug and potentially able to eat at someplace like Connections eatery(flower and garden item and alcohol) plus a $9 snack item- it at least has me relooking at this.
