Question, is this just because of no APs and no multi-day or park hopper tickets? Because I bought my tickets less than a week out so they don’t seem to be capping ticket sales.
I’ll see if my mental model of this is coherent. Here we go:
- I’ve been told by teams inside Universal who’d know, that they’re capping attendance because of ride capacity and ride reliability.
- They wouldn’t tell me the cap number. My best guess is around 16,000 or 17,000 guests.
- We don’t know what the park capacity is, because we don’t know how long Universal would let the lines get with higher attendance numbers.
- For example, if the average posted wait throughout the day is 45-55 minutes at 17K guests, would they be okay with a 90-minute wait from ~30,000 guests? Only management knows right now.
- I suspect they want to keep it under ~65 minutes, but that’s a guess.

- They can generaly sell 16-17K on-site and one-day tickets each day, so they don’t need passholders.
- That policy also earns UOR more revenue
This makes sense! Thank you.
Our day definitely “felt” light. Like we at lunch at exactly noon and the restaurant was half full. But they definitely need to keep working on ride uptime and throughput.
Truly! I think Mine cart has been down all day today, which is just shocking to me. Too few rides to have one down all day. But I’m sure it can’t be helped.
I just realized that this would be an issue with APs.
This is my point. They have not been “selling out” of regular single day tickets, so that’s not how they are limiting capacity. They are limiting by not allowing APs in.
Oh, yeah, 100%.
In a sense, though, they are limiting day tickets sales by making everyone pay for day tickets one day at a time. This means people are only doing one day at Epic during a 3 day UOR trip (or whatever) much of the time. But if the 3-day park-to-park tickets allowed Epic to be all three days, I think more people would end up there versus the older parks.
So, perhaps we can say they aren’t necessarily capping the park attendance, but they are limiting it.
Sure. I guess my point is that they are not actually turning anyone away like they were in the beginning. This isn’t a MK Phase 4 “capacity closure” where no more people can come in. I don’t think they have “sold out” since June and one random day in October. Sure, they are forcing balking to reduce demand, but they are not actually capping supply currently.
We’re testing Epic U plans today. I’m told:
- Mine-Cart Madness will be closed all day
- Battle at the Ministry is closing early for a special event
Wonder what’s up there. It was closed all day yesterday as well.
I tell everyone that we had an amazing day at Epic but all it takes is some crap like this to ruin it. It was closed the vast majority of the day we were there too.
The closing early sign seems to constantly be posted. I thought the consensus was so that they could close the line at their discretion at the end of the night. It was open past 9:30pm the night we were there even with the sign out.
They just talked about this on a recent DFBGuide video, and that seems to be their conclusion…that they want to have the right to close early if the queue is already at capacity or significantly long as they approach park closing time…but that they really haven’t had to invoke this (or at least not often) in practice.
“I WAS TOLD THERE’D BE NO MATH” - me, every day of my life.
Absolutely no need to apologize. We all want to provide the best possible advice. And if we’re wrong, we should fix it.
It was closed when we were there last month as well.
It looks like Minecart is up as of 10:45 at least. Glad it’s not down two days in a row.
It’s the new Test Track where somebody turned a lawn hose on in Kissimmee and the ride had to shut for moisture.
I’m interested to see the results! Today seems like not a great day for wait times. I feel like since school started Monday and Wednesday have switched and now Wednesday has the better wait times. Posted ones at least.
Ugh - it’s been chaos. Luckily we planned for Wednesday and Friday too.
