Epic Universe News & Planning Thread

The larger, sweeping motions of this ride are less about high intensity, and more about being able to take in the racing aspect, it seems. That’s quite awesome, actually. If there was too much action, it would undermine the racing part of this, making it difficult to appreciate what the other train is doing. Very smart design.

The frequent up and downs should also give some nice airtime moments.

This is definitely the ride I am most excited about at Epic. I do fear the lines will be LOOOOOONG though. I am curious to hear what the capacity will be. Based on what blocking I could see, it seems like they could have 3 or 4 trains on each track running…with 2 on the course (for each side) at the same time.

Each train can hold up to 20 people and there are two trains. The Starfall coaster is about 5,000 feet of track that goes 60mph.

VC can hold up to 24 people and they put up to four trains on the track. The track is about 4,700 feet of track that goes up to 70mph. The hourly capacity for VC is about 1,700 / hour…

I don’t know how many trains SF will be able to have going/loading/unloading…

I know it’s not a perfect extrapolation, but using VC as a guide, could we get over 3,000 people per hour???

If we combine both, perhaps. But I see it as two distinct (but literally intertwined) coasters. I wouldn’t be happy to just ride one, and not ride the other.

But, the VC comparison hopefully gives us a guide. If we can achieve 1700/hour per side, that should be good for SR.

This looks very similar in style and intensity to Velocicoaster, but without the IP and with dual tracks. So I don’t think it will get crazy, because the intensity is a turn-off for many people (even though it’s incredible and more people should try it!). That said, I expect all lines to be insane for a while, so “crazy” will be relative.

It’s “crazy” they force ME to wait at all. They should let me board as a walk-on every time!!!

Starfall will have one queue like DD so I think it’ll be a capacity monster.

I’m struggling to decode “DD”… Doctor Doom???

Dudley Doo-Right??? That Dudley queue is soooo long! I hate it. You have to hike to get to the loading area. I’ve stood there and deliberately looked at all the chains on stanchions (using my Ops mindset) working out how to eliminate about half or more of that outdoor section. It’s very easy and would take minutes, but no one seems interested in going out there to rework it. I also dislike the “viewing” holes in the first hall that look at a wood fence. Put up a poster or anything fun!!

Thanks!!! I wasn’t thinking about retired attractions!!

Yeah… If it’s got a queue like DD/Hagrid’s it’s meant to be a people eater for sure!!

I still stand by my Dudley queue remarks!!

The video from yesterday’s testing was about 2+ minutes and that wasn’t all of it. I’m optimistic for a 2.5+ minute ride!! So exciting! I was one of the few that picked Celestial Park as the first Portal they want to visit…

This looks like something i might be able to enjoy! My Rip Ride and Hulk days are past me unfortunately. VC is hit or miss depending on how I feel at the moment.

The racing part is one heck of a nod and i love it!

(Still, im heading to Monster Portal first) :smirk: for now…

I’m glad it is using a stomach restraint instead of a shoulder one! Plus, it look really smoith. I love VC because, for me, it glides along the track. However, my daughter is hit or miss about it rattles her. (IMHO - It’s because she habitually has a bun or ponytail that causes her to be unable to keep her head back against the headrest)

I never keep my head back against a headrest for ANY coaster. Sure way to get a headache!

Tell me more about this. Does it have to do with you being tall? Or do you think this would hold true for short folk like me?

For me, when you try to keep your head back, you’re putting pressure and tension on that part of your body. So when the vehicle is rough and jerks you around, it can be worse on your head/neck area.

I try to keep relaxed and have my head “float”, and it’s much better. This can be hard to do and it may seem unnatural, but it definitely helps me.

I think I have noticed this effect before but didn’t make the connection. I’ll have to try it in the future. I guess if you’re making contact with the headrest, the vibrations of the roller coaster vehicle will be transferred through your skull.

Yes!

Correct.

I should add a caveat. On coasters that have a hard launch (such as RnRC) I do keep my head back until after the launch.

Or a loop, you need your head to stay on the headrest for a loop.

Well, maybe some loops. Most loops? No. Again, having your head against the headrest can make it worse. A large vertical loop, perhaps because of gravity.
