Dynamic Ticket Pricing

Hi Everyone,

Just found this:

https://www.defensemwr.com/columbus/programs-services/tickets-travel/new-disney-world-variable-pricing-on-tickets

Coupled with some not-so-cryptic mention on the podcast this week, I assume that dynamic ticket pricing is coming to FL.

If I am planning a trip around 4th of July, do you think it is better to buy tickets now? I was holding out for maybe a summer ticket deal, but now I’m not so sure…

Thanks for any advice!

Yes! Len mentioned on this week’s podcast that a ticket price is coming any day.

Oh dear god… :woman_facepalming:

One thing I’ve always appreciated about selling Disney vacations is not having to “pressure sales” people. I have always very confidently said, “This pricing is the very most you will pay, and if a discount comes along that is applicable your total cost may go down.”

But with dynamic pricing… not so much.

So now it will be “book now because it could be more expensive tomorrow!”

September is starting to look better and better for my next trip. Hurricanes, Shmurricanes.

I DO NOT like this. Knowing the room rate for particular dates has helped so many make concrete plans. This brings an uncertainty in a time when Disney is already complicated enough.

I think the conversation was about ticket prices (which is still relevant to my comment).

Does it include room pricing too because damn

What happens currently if prices rise after someone books but before they pay in full? Is the price locked in from the time they pay the deposit?

I know it works like that here, but I wasn’t sure if that’s a Disney policy or an EU consumer protection policy.

Yes. Whatever price they deposit at is the price they pay unless they ask me to modify the trip in some way (or unless I automagically get them the discount that applies to their booking)

The article suggests it’s starting from Feb 25th. But it hasn’t even been announced yet. I guess they might be going for a Friday afternoon announcement.

I don’t even understand what Dynamic pricing means. I thought Disney already had this? Prices are different depending on the day you set your ticket start date…and of course, Disney can, at any time, decide to increase ticket prices (which they seem to do with more regularity).

How is this different?

Pricing that changes minute to minute based on demand

Consider airline pricing, for example. Or hotel room pricing. Or car rental pricing. Where the price is fluctuating all the time based on demand.

This would not be the same as discount offers, or typical ticket pricing changes that happen on a fairly predictable periodic schedule over time

Okay…so, let me give a made-up example to see if I understand.

Today, Disney will say that a 5-day ticket will cost X dollars starting on date December 1. Unless Disney raises prices, then that 5-day ticket will always cost X dollars.

But with Dynamic pricing, Disney might initially list the price as X dollars, but as more and more people start buying tickets for December 1, they will raise the price to X + Y dollars, even if it 2 days after they started selling those tickets?

That is how I understand dynamic pricing to work

Also, they could drop the price as the date gets closer if sales were soft.

So you could end up paying more because you bought early and the pricing went down, if they don’t allow modifications to the new pricing.

Yes. But also, if in a few months they realise they have sold fewer tickets for the beginning of December than they want, they could lower the price by $50 or $100. If you’ve already bought your tickets or a package, then you lose out.

I guess time will tell but do we think it will be better to book early? Or wait until a few months before like airlines?

Bah. So annoying, because we haven’t firmed up our specifics for our upcoming trip. Originally, we were going to not buy any tickets and just buy party tickets. But then, we thought we should have 1 day at Epcot for Festival of the Holidays (so I’m looking at MAYBE an after 1 pm conference ticket). But, we might later decided to add another day.

Holding off seems like it will bite me in the hiney.

How stupid. (For guests. Probably not for Disney.)

If this comes to pass, this would be uncharted waters.

I would probably book early for a refundable/modifiable package or room. And then watch closely for drops

Ugh I’m exhausted already. If you knew how obsessive I am over checking airline pricing after I book you’d understand

I hate the airline game.

That will depend on when you want to go and how well the tickets sell. So for some dates you’d be better buying early, for others you’d be better waiting.

Incidentally I’ve never seen airline prices fall as you get nearer. But that could be because of our EU consumer protection policies, or just a different market and different airline policies.
