Since we almost exclusively fly Delta, we don’t really face this. Unlike other airlines, it pretty much is ALWAYS the earlier you buy the cheaper it will be. They don’t do the same kind of tricks other airlines do…BUT it does have the downside of meaning you NEED to book as soon as the tickets for your dates become available.
They almost ALWAYS just keep going up. (I’ve followed pricing, and watched vlogs about it…it is rare exception that Delta lowers prices on tickets.)
I bought the tickets for our upcoming trip the DAY they were available. 24 hours later, the prices for the same tickets went up almost $100, and have never come back down!
That site is for military and veterans, correct? I wonder if it could apply to those tickets?
Or, perhaps more likely, they pre-emptively published the article and it was then pulled at the last minute. It wouldn’t be the first time Disney make a last minute decision not to go ahead with something.
We are in the States, so not sure about other countries. But we are 64 days away from our arrival. I watch our Southwest flight prices several times a day, every day. This week alone, one of our flights went down by $20/flight on Wednesday, and another $30 today. So, for 4 of us, I was able to accumulate $200 in flight credits by rebooking, this week alone. That doesn’t count what I was able to save in previous weeks. Sure, I have a lot of small flight credits, but they do not expire.
The budget airlines are more prone to doing this. I was absolutely furious with Spirit over this practice. I wasn’t used to it, since Delta doesn’t play these games.
However, budget airlines have a game plan in mind. Charge more earlier, get you to pay it, then lower it later. Hopefully you don’t notice. But even if you do, you end up with small enough credits that you will then want to use them and book another flight later with them so you can use their credits. It is all a game.
I technically have some “flight credit” money sitting with Spirit…but I’ll be hard-pressed to ever use it. It ain’t worth the headache. (Unless they happen to have a flight we really need and they have an amazing price…I won’t cut my nose off to spite my face, after all!)
There is a trick to converting them into one transferable credit if you need to:
Summary
Since you can only use 3 forms of payment, book cheap flights (or any really) using 2 credits and 1 credit card then cancel it, returning the credit card portion back to the credit card. Keep repeating until you have 2 credits left. Then book a WGA+ tickets and cancel it. Voila- your credit is now 1 consolidated, transferable credit per person.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning 11am and 6pm Central. That is all I will allow myself to do. Friday - Monday the price shown is almost always higher and never lower. I find sometimes the Tuesday price is better than the Wednesday “sale” price. I also like to check availability for 2 ppl vs 8 ppl. If it’s different pricing, it means the flight is getting filled and not likely to see many future drops.
