@JJT you experiencing any issues with DVC Shop?

Edit: Might be due to the current Cloudflare outage. GoDaddy’s firewall is powered by Cloudflare and that’s where they’re hosted, so I wouldn’t be shocked if this were the reason.

Welp, this one showed up yesterday and increased by $50/night overnight.
I don’t understand why they do that.

Just ran my scripts now, looks like we’re on the other side of the Cloudflare outage.
Looking like that service is now a bigger single point of failure than many other possibilities these days!

This is not a high volume room at all in April dedicated listings, but is by far among the lowest I’ve recorded.

I noticed an oddity today when testing out the Changed this Week? filter on my new search engine.

Some listings were appearing in the filtered results that had zero values in the Price Change column. Which does not logic.

My first thought was that somehow one of my data crunching formulas was written incorrectly - but if that were the case, I would have noticed this issue on all of the changed listings.

When I looked at the summary data in my Excel sheet, I could see that the Cost_Max (price when first listed) and Cost_Min (current price) were the same - so it makes sense that the Cost Change column was 0.

Then, when I went to look at the raw data records I had a #headslap moment. headslap_fawlty

This is one of those DVCShop listings where they posted it at a price and jacked it up on day 2 - and now have dropped it back to the original price!

My formula that looks to see if something changed this week looks at the current price vs other prices in the last 7 days and if so sets the value in that field to “Yes”.

But, column that calculates the $ change does something different: it does a simple subtraction of (current price) - (first listed price). I made that choice long ago because using the formula structure I use to grab those values uses a WHOLE LOT less processing time than my old array formula lookups. The old array formulas would just look for the maximum price and grab that - which may or may not be the first price, as we see here.

I suppose there are arguments for doing it both ways - I think I’d prefer my data to show it was indeed a higher price at some point, so I’ll think about getting that done without taking a hit on my formula process time again.

But, for now: I have other fish to fry so am just going to leave it alone. Just know: if something shows up when you use the “Changed this week?” checkbox filter, it did indeed change in price.

This concludes the “More information than anyone cared to know” part of this show.

This one appeared in the late refresh last night and I much expected it would follow the previous path of DVCShop increasing the price on day 2. But, they did not!

So, this SUPER VERY NICE listing is still out there if you are looking for September deals.

4-night SSR Studio 09/27 for $216/night or 27% under median

Of course: Chances are we’ll see a good number of similar or lower listings for this room in Sept as we get closer if you’d rather not lock into a non-refundable 11 months out.

Note: I started using a new more better median comparison as of today in the search engine.

Here’s the rundown of what/why from my search page:

Price vs Median filter: Not a fan of how filters work when I want users to be able to select an amount and have it filter anything <= to that selection. Working on a better method. Also: for comparison in this column I have now changed from using an “overall” median crunched using ALL historical listings for a particular Resort and Room Type combo to using a “monthly” median. The monthly median value is calculated using only historical listings for that room that also started in the same month as the current listing. While still not a perfect comparison because points calendars do bleed across months, I believe it should still be a fairly decent indicator on how a listing compares in that time frame and definitely better than comparing to the overall median.

Haven’t had one of these in awhile, but it is…

There are 30 price drops so far, several very nice ones - a capture of the raw data below:

Already automagically imported into the search engine… if you want to find them quickly, just click the Changed This Week? check box and hit search and your will shall be done.

Originally over $1,100/night! Now at $496 it ties with one other 1-nighter for the lowest price recorded.

Do not expect to see others at this price show up.
