Dining reservation - what time to check?

The parks are fine. I got a Blue Bayou for the 3rd yesterday. It just looks like DLH isn’t loading right and GCH is mostly down for refurb.

Ok, it’s 8:55 EDT, so 5:55 PDT. Checking one more time to see what’s going on with Trader Sam’s.

Heh, someone cancelled a reservation for tomorrow

Yeah, checked right at 9:00, nothing.

I’m now mostly certain that this is just the Oogie Boogie switchover. affecting some of the reservation availability at DLH.

My daughter and I will be there on July 24th for the new Trader Sam’s mermaid mug drop. I will have to remember ro ask what’s up with reservations!

Is there nothing available for any DLH restaurants or just TS? When we went in May there was nothing available at Carnation after a certain date. Turns out it was closed for a refurb.

The only ADRs I can get specifically for DLH is at Palm Breeze Bar. Goofy’s Kitchen is a blank after August 22, but it seems that they usually redo the menu for Halloween season. Trader Sam’s will be Trader Sam’s.

I checked Hearthstone lounge at GCH and they are open at 60 days so I thought I’d check the place right next to Trader Sam’s and it looks like they are at a little over a 30 day opening.

GCH is going through a refurb, so that’s why their availability is all over the place. I think DLH is just doing the Halloween hold.

And holy , is that the same food menu from Trader Sam’s?

Pretty much! The two places are back-to-back in the same building and share a kitchen. Several items show up on both menus, maybe with a slight difference in sides or embellishment.

We ate at both in May. TT by ourselves, TS with Liner friends.

The way I have heard it described that makes the most sense to me (and I’ve not done Trader Sam’s personally so others can correct me if I’m at all off), but the Terrace is all the outside closer to the DLH/pool, with almost the same food menu, and then inside is the Trader Sam’s.

Okay. Good to know! I’ll keep my options open. I don’t like eating outside when it’s hot as Hades

Tangaroa Terrace is the north portion of the building (or left side as you approach the entrance). plus a lot of the patio area around that end. It is listed as QS, and definitely encourages ordering to-go food. You can take your food to eat outside or in your room. But they also have a very small, quiet area with a few tables and chairs, including some banquette seating. They will bring you your food at the inside area, on nice plates (not paper), so it functions as a Table Service area after you have ordered your food at the register.

Trader Sam’s is the South or right-hand end of the building (if approaching from the west end). You can also enter the south end. It is very much a bar, with a few tables inside and several tables on the outside patio. It is noisy at times, and the AC was very cold (those who had a sweater or light jacket along really appreciated wearing them inside!).

Yellow arrow is the entrance from the west. The ground ramps up on this side, so the patios and building are several feet above the pool deck. If you enter these doors and hold left, that’s Tangaroa Terrace. It looked like you could enter and hold right to go toward Trader Sam’s, maybe for the outside people to order bar drinks to take back to their table?

The orange arrow is one way to approach Trader Sam’s. They might have had steps and a ramp?

No matter which one you go to, if you are coming from the main lobby or Downtown Disney area, you need to walk along the east side to get to the sidewalk that wraps around the south and west ends, you can’t really get there from the north end.

This is good to know. Thank you! There’s still so much about Disneyland that I just don’t know.

I’ll be coming from the exhibit hall in the Fantasy Tower, right on the top edge of the picture. Can I just walk around the pool, or is that path blocked?

There are sidewalks all over the place. It looks like you can cross over the pool area on a bridge. Here’s a map.

Steakhouse 55

Fair 'nuff. Here’s the map we were given in May. Note that the exhibit halls are in the convention section to the left/west of the actual Fantasy Tower. The wide hallway which connects that end of the Fantasy Tower to Goofy’s Kitchen (and passes some exhibit halls) has some nice historical exhibits about Disneyland and the Disneyland Hotel.

Oh I was just giving you crap  It was the “Steakhouse 55” label that had me. It was the one place I wanted to go to but shut down before I could ever step foot in Southern Cal.

Oh, I knew that! I am so used to being on the receiving end of that kind of stuff from family.
