Some changes to Top of the World access were posted:
So, I have no issue with this being limited to only members who qualify for âmembership extrasâ. The lounge is very limited, so they canât open up access very much.
But what Iâm curious about is HOW they confirm this. In the past, when they wanted to check this, they would have you open the app and show in your profile, where it would indicate directly if you had membership extras. But now, using the same method, it JUST shows that we are DVC member. As a result, we were able to secure 20% discounts on all of our purchases without any issue. So, how are they enforcing membership extras? Is there some OTHER way now?
Did you show your MagicMobile card without DVC-Y? I know there is a glitch where mobile ordering always gives the 20% discount (that is great for resale owners) but in person I have even had CMs refused to give me a discount after seeing the DVC Y if I didnât have an ID.
In person, I was asked to go into the MDE app and show the Profile. In the profile, where it USED to indicate if you qualified or not, it no longer does. Now it just says âDisney Vacation Club Memberâ and when I showed it in person, they immediately applied the discount. I wasnât going to complain. ![]()
Is this referring to direct purchase and/or Magic Beyond? My app states DVC-BY-Annual
That is: DVC- B(magic beyond) Y (yes you are eligible for all DVC discounts.
In my wallet I also see my AP on the Disney card
Where are you seeing this? Like I mentioned, where the CMs have told me to go, it no longer shows it like that. So I am wondering where you are looking.
I believe CMs are supposed to only accept the digital card downloaded from MDE to your wallet. Here is an old blog post with directions:
yes, what @PrincipalTinker wrote. Itâs in my wallet app on my phone. If you open your ticket in MDE you will have the option to âSave to Walletâ. Then you can use your phone at the tapstyle too
Once in your wallet there will be an âiâ in the top right corner and that opens the info page w/ a QR code that GS have used too.
Although @ryan1 if you are getting CMs that are accepting and giving you discounts the way you are doing it, why change? A couple of years ago they were really firm with me that they needed to see the card with the Y but it seems you have had a different experience.
Okay. I see. So, it is tied to a ticket in your wallet, and not something visible within MDE directly? Which is interesting because I was never asked to show anything from my wallet. In fact, even in the past, if I tried to show them my ticket in my wallet, they would tell me to instead go in to MDE, and view the Profile, then Memberships. Which is what I did. So, I was surprised that when they asked me to do that now, it no longer shows details, only that Iâm a DVC Member.
Another interesting aspect of this isâŚwhat if you donât have any tickets? Like, in this case we have tickets, but if you were to go and stay on property without any tickets (which originally was our plan for this trip), they would have no way to look at that information because there would be no tickets in the wallet?!?
If they accept this as a means for getting the DVC discount, Iâm not going to complain. I did what they asked, and got the discount as a result. My line of questioning was more around how they are checking, in other cases, whether you qualify for Membership Extras or not (such as visiting Top of the World) because I canât imagine that suddenly all resale owners are going to start being able to gain access to some of those benefits.
I DO KNOW that that system wonât give me access to the DVC discounted annual pass, though, so they have at least some places covered.
Your digital card always shows your status, even without a ticket.
At Top of the World they will ask you to show your mobile wallet which will have ND amd they wonât let you in.
CMs can get agressive with this - Aulani for the discount, Top of the World, and asking for a Sorcerâs pass. I am not a fan of people clicking around in my phone which is what two of them did without my permission. The third (at TOTW) I just confirmed that it would show I was not eligible, and that my question was, âis there limited eligibilityâ.
hmmmm, I donât see the same notations in MDE as my wallet. A GS CM asked me to open my wallet and then scaned the QR code in the info window.
Is this in the wallet? oh wait, I found it⌠itâs under my Profile - Mbrshp&passes and shows FL Res, Castaway club, AP, DVC but it doesnât show Magic Beyond or what DVC status I am (direct or resale)
I agree, sometimes I can see the CM getting âitchyâ wanting to grab my phone from me and other times I just hand them my phone b/c they will get there quicker ![]()
Thanks!! Thatâs the only place Iâve seen certain designations ![]()
It is just odd the inconsistency of this. In the past, if I tried to open up my wallet, I was told not to, and instead use the profile in MDE. But it sounds like it is the opposite case sometimes.
My understanding is it is a case of being able to fake things outside of MDE. In MDE, you are dynamically loading the page so it is up to date. Someone can have a screenshot of the wallet and pass it off as current.
Iâve experienced this too, I think it depends on the CM and how controlling or strict they are???
Also, I noticed NO CONTROL at EEH⌠meaning that no one seemed to be checking if you were eligible to be there or not. It wasnât crowded so I didnât care but I thought it was odd b/c I did hear some CMs yelling at MK telling ppl to show their party bands.
In MDE, does it say you are eligible for all discounts? Mine just says I am a D
VC member. It is not my membership card. MagicMobile replaced my old DVC blue card .
