I used Chase ultimate Rewards points. If you could get a good return and sub on the Hyatt points the card might be worth looking into. We did two sapphire preferred cards. I wouldn’t want to use up one of my 5/24s on the Hyatt card, at least not at this point. We get many more Chase ultimate Rewards points for the spend and yearly fee
I’m sitting on about 310k, and DW is waiting for the next good SUB (100k+) to sign up. We’ve also got about 140k each with United and 50k with southwest.
I’m at 3/24 and DW is 2/24 with one falling off each around March. I’m trying to earn as much as possible, even though we don’t have any trips we can use many points for in the near future.
If you don’t have Chase UR business cards, that could be a way to go. I like UR points because they can be transferred. We have a chunk of AA miles. I’m trying to get us both to Anchorage and back from Vancouver in (mostly) business class on points, lol. The UR points can be transferred to multiple airlines. But right now I’m eying up Alaskan points. That SUB value to me is much higher than Hyatt points. But if hotel stays is what you want- Hyatt points are premium.
Ive done the business cards before - the united and some of the southwest points came from them. So definitely a fan of the biz cards and the UR points. I briefly eyed cards that earn Avios points, as that system seems super intriguing. The AA cards/points are with Citi right? DW is still holding that old sears card that converted to a regular citi thank you card. Not sure how many points were sitting on there.
Yes.
We got the card then AA changed a bunch of flight options out of MSY, lol. So now I just want to use up the points.
So DW has 140k ThankYou points, so considering a Strata card to be able to transfer those things to partners. @JJT do you know if this is possible, similar to how URs earned on a freedom flex can be transferred if you also hold a Sapphire? Frequent Miler talks about combining certain fee free cards, so seems like a good bet.
Ah, I have not looked into Citi at all yet so anything I might recall is just from an old podcast.
I have been reading in the FM and other groups how Citi had shut down a bunch of newly approved cards, then said “Sorry, Our bad” and reopened them and awarded the sign up bonuses with no spend - then at least one person had it all shut down and the points taken away again this weekend!
So, I’m not making any plans to go for Citi for awhile. ![]()
I’m almost positive this is a thing. I used my Thank you points to book my current Swan stay. But DH has a bunch just sitting there. We have different Citi cards gathering thank you points. I have the Sears that I need to upgrade to something as I don’t use it at all. I do have a custom cash that I use for groceries. I was considering the Strata upgrade for either DH or myself. You still get the SUB with an upgrade or would I need to cancel and reapply?
OH WoW!
That’s what DW had, but they auto changed it to a normal thankyou earning Citi card earlier this year or maybe last. We’re still getting wild earning offers though.
I think I got a new card too. I’ll have to check when I get home.
I just read that you can transfer some of these points without needing a card with a fee. It may not be as great of a redemption but it’s an option at least.
I did see a chart where you could transfer 1000 points to X Partners and get 750 points. The $95 fee card might be the way to go in that situation.
What are the chances southwest follows normal airline pricing schemes and normalizes prices prior to the three month mark? Their strategy, if you can call it that, seems to be totally unhinged. Their first lounge will be at a far away airport that is only served by a small sect of their customer base. Their inter-island flights could be driving this, as I’m sure there’s plenty of folks who take the short hauls daily, so is this catering just to those people who likely get to the airport just as the plane is about to board?
I shudder to think what a Midway lounge will look like.
Maybe they chose that location thinking it was something more controllable as a test case, rather than open one at a SW hub and get hammered immediately?
I feel like that’s giving them too much credit.
Well, I mean, it’s in the thread title.

I just came back to the TouringPlans world and stumbled upon this forum and couldn’t stop reading. I always try to be point savvy but know I’m missing a lot. Just planned our 7th DW trip for the fam and last trip was 2020 so much to catch up on. Recently been thinking about getting the Disney Visa (again, had it 2015-2020) but not sure what it will do for me since I’ve already booked??? Advice on this would be nice.
Last few years I’ve had so much fun playing around with our Delta Am Ex and more recently my One Key card. Am Ex obviously has good miles boost and we were able to fly as a fam of 4 to Maui and back on points which was amazing. Plus my husband gets the $100 credit to be TSA pre check which helps. I hold the One Key card which also gives a TSA pre check stipend so we each have that for free essentially. One key is all of hotels/expedia/VRBO so most all of our hotel stays are on points. Currently saving up my One Key is to use it on our VRBO for our Maui/Kauai 2027 trip. They were giving away an $800 bonus when I got the card a few years ago. Definitely worth looking into if you travel often.
If you want to get into the credit card points game big time, it is all about always going towards a sign up bonus.
In terms of the Disney Visa, there are better options out there for cards with better sign up bonuses. Do you have any travel plans? Want something like a cash back sign up bonus? Or are you looking to get points for flights and hotels?
