Coronavirus Outbreak: Part 4

Update: Currently in Preveza, Greece and stopped in a pharmacy to ask about vaccinations. Everyone spoke English (humbled again  ) but they told me that I could get my flu shot w/ them, when they are issued in mid-October but I’d have to go to the hospital to request a covid jab.

Just got my Moderna shot at CVS. Wasn’t sure if it would be covered by my insurance (CVS Caremark) anymore, but they told me it was. New Moderna formula, I understand.

Vax chart and faq excerpt from YLE. Hadn’t realized that Fall 2025 Covid vaccines were approved for almost everyone.

Do we really need a Covid-19 vaccine every year—or would skipping a year be better? An annual dose continues to provide additional protection to everyone, including children. For example, the latest data continue to show that the Covid-19 vaccine offers 40-80% additional protection for kids in preventing visits to urgent care, compared to kids who didn’t receive the vaccine. This is comparable to the flu vaccine. We cannot ā€œoverwhelmā€ our immune systems, and our immune systems don’t need a break from vaccines. Every day, our immune systems are exposed to thousands of microbes; it can handle our vaccine schedule.

Do I need a prescription to get a Covid-19 vaccine? It depends on the state, but the vast majority of states don’t need a prescription.

Are vaccines covered by insurance? Yes.

Well COVID will never go away though it has decreased it is like cancer. Can strike at anytime. Using common sense.

It’s like The Spanish Flu from 1918. It’s never really gone away, it’s been determined that it’s a strain of H1N1. So some direct descendant of that 107 year old virus is still there. Covid will also never go away. It’s been reduced in its potential damage, but it will always fly around.

EU vaccination update: We were able to get our flu shots at a pharmacy in Greece (don’t know if I reported that yet) BUT we do not seem to be able to get a covid vaccination w/o a Greek tax ID no. They called it something else, but I can’t remember. I’m not sure if we are going to try to go to the international bank to see if they will grant a temporary one. It seems their rules have changed about giving out the shot to anyone. If we were near a US military installation, we could just walk into one and get our jabs. The nearest one (only one in gr.) is on Crete. I think we will try to call our nurses hotline to see if they have a suggestion. I still don’t understand why Lakenheath AB didn’t do it when we were there in August :face_with_raised_eyebrow: We really wanted an updated vaccination before we traveled back but I don’t think it’s going to happen now  The Greeks don’t have a system for this to pay cash for it, but they do the flu shot :woman_shrugging: . I could go on a whole rant about the Greek bureaucratic system; feels like an abusive relationship. Somehow, we avoided a 500-euro fine b/c each port authority gives different instructions :woman_facepalming:
