Update: Currently in Preveza, Greece and stopped in a pharmacy to ask about vaccinations. Everyone spoke English (humbled again
) but they told me that I could get my flu shot w/ them, when they are issued in mid-October but Iād have to go to the hospital to request a covid jab.
Just got my Moderna shot at CVS. Wasnāt sure if it would be covered by my insurance (CVS Caremark) anymore, but they told me it was. New Moderna formula, I understand.
Vax chart and faq excerpt from YLE. Hadnāt realized that Fall 2025 Covid vaccines were approved for almost everyone.
Do we really need a Covid-19 vaccine every yearāor would skipping a year be better? An annual dose continues to provide additional protection to everyone, including children. For example, the latest data continue to show that the Covid-19 vaccine offers 40-80% additional protection for kids in preventing visits to urgent care, compared to kids who didnāt receive the vaccine. This is comparable to the flu vaccine. We cannot āoverwhelmā our immune systems, and our immune systems donāt need a break from vaccines. Every day, our immune systems are exposed to thousands of microbes; it can handle our vaccine schedule.
Do I need a prescription to get a Covid-19 vaccine? It depends on the state, but the vast majority of states donāt need a prescription.
Are vaccines covered by insurance? Yes.
I really should look into getting my covid shot. Last year, work did a clinic, but i havenāt heard anything about it this year.
Well COVID will never go away though it has decreased it is like cancer. Can strike at anytime. Using common sense.
Itās like The Spanish Flu from 1918. Itās never really gone away, itās been determined that itās a strain of H1N1. So some direct descendant of that 107 year old virus is still there. Covid will also never go away. Itās been reduced in its potential damage, but it will always fly around.
EU vaccination update: We were able to get our flu shots at a pharmacy in Greece (donāt know if I reported that yet) BUT we do not seem to be able to get a covid vaccination w/o a Greek tax ID no. They called it something else, but I canāt remember. Iām not sure if we are going to try to go to the international bank to see if they will grant a temporary one. It seems their rules have changed about giving out the shot to anyone. If we were near a US military installation, we could just walk into one and get our jabs. The nearest one (only one in gr.) is on Crete. I think we will try to call our nurses hotline to see if they have a suggestion. I still donāt understand why Lakenheath AB didnāt do it when we were there in August
We really wanted an updated vaccination before we traveled back but I donāt think itās going to happen now
The Greeks donāt have a system for this to pay cash for it, but they do the flu shot
. I could go on a whole rant about the Greek bureaucratic system; feels like an abusive relationship. Somehow, we avoided a 500-euro fine b/c each port authority gives different instructions ![]()
Hey, everybody! Iām continuing to live my odd, nomad lifestyle, with much approval from my medical team (who were very frustrated at how little they could help me, so are pleased Iām keeping my symptoms in check with my extreme lifestyle changes).
I mainly continue to follow the email updates from Katelyn Jetelina (Your Local Epidemiologist) and bi-weekly podcasts from Michael Osterholm (CIDRAP/U of MN) for updates on Covid, infectious disease, and all things public health. Highly recommend both.
A few exerpts from latest from YLE, just to emphasize what a train wreck this all is right now.
Hope all is well with you and yours!
Glad to see you back! Iāve been thinking about you. I guess because of the 6th anniversary of the closures.
Good to see you! How is the nomad lifestyle treating you these days? Iāll bet you have some stories!!
So. Many. Stories. !!!
Just completed a 2.5 month swing LAāTXāNMāAZāCA and back to TX, including a week of tidepooling in San Diego and a week of camping each at Death Valley National Park and Mojave National Preserve.
Still really enjoying it. Catering to my bodyās needs as a primary objective has really helped me get my symptoms to a lower baseline and drastically improved my quality of life. I still have the nonstop headache that Iāve had since 9/21/16 and my noise intolerance makes being in a noisy environment longer than 15-20 min an issue, and Iām still masking because any type of infection risks a permanent increase in symptoms (and frequently a temporary one at least).
I post updates to my facebook account around twice a week if anyone wants to follow along.
Just drop me a private message here when you friend me so Iāll know to accept the request.
I do plan to head back to the west coast in May, and will probably make my first ever visit to Disneyland at some point this summer, so will be back looking for advice at that time, Iām sure!
Exciting! Iāll look forward to seeing you around here posting about this!
I would definitely friend on Facebook if I had one (this is my only social media).
Would love trip planning help hereā¦
