Coronado Resort Trip, The Year of Our Mouse, 2021

Omg! That would leave me shaken for the entire day. How are you all doing??

My only demand when we bought our house 3 years ago were off street parking and central air. My town is mostly row homes also. We have one of the very few non row homes. I get the struggle.

We are planning on moving in the next 1-2 years. We moved in here in 1998…renting. Got married, had kid #1, and then our landlord died just as we discovered kid #2 was on the way. Ended up buying the rowhouse from his widow, which at the time was the right decision (not having to move, good deal on house, etc) but we definitley need more space with bigger people and far too much stuff!

The new house will most definitely be a stand alone house, have central air (don’t have it now), and a garage. Dh would prefer at least a 2 car garage :sunglasses: There are other nice to haves on the list, but those are mandatory.

I’m probably the only one but I HATE cluttered garages. I have two shelves with items on them, a couple of larger items like a ladder and a wading pool against the wall, and otherwise plenty of clearance around both vehicles when they are parked. I would think in Arizona most people would be like me (since it’s so hot), but I have lots of friends who use their garages as a shop or storage area. Baffles my mind.

P.S. I am SO sorry about your car. I can’t believe people can be so awful. I am so glad to live in an area where those types of crimes are rare. Also I have an older car so not a lot of valuable parts.

nope… my DH is right there w/ you! Onc place we lived it he refused to leave the garage door open b/c it was like a box storage plc. Military life. Now, not so much… still sorting out 20+ years of moving

Oh my goodness. That’s horrible. And odd…I didn’t realize people would steal airbags from a car.

Really sorry this happened to you. Hope things get back on track quickly.

This is happening all over the US. Has been for a while, but I first saw it being reported last summer. Not just Prius’, and not just at night. There were even reports of it happening in industrial parks in CA during business hours.

The best way to prevent this is to keep the car garaged, which isn’t possible for a lot of people. I’m sorry about your friends car.

ETA: I didn’t read everyone else talking about garages as well. Sorry for the doubling up.

To OP, I’m so sorry that that happened. It’s nice of the hotel to comp the stay and I hope everything going further goes much, much smoother.

If you have any copper pipes/wiring watch out for people stealing those, too.

I do medical billing and several years ago one of our clients (a medical imaging center) sent out notication one day that they would be closed for a period of time because somebody got on the roof and stole copper piping/wiring that was for some of the imaging equipment. :flushed:

This happened to us when we lived in AZ. In AZ, it’s common for the condenser unit for your central air to be on the roof. One day in April we went to turn on the AC and it didn’t work. Turned out someone had broken into the unit on the roof and stripped out all the copper. Probably happened months before but we didn’t know bc we weren’t using the AC.

There’s a YouTube video I came across done by a couple (Nate and Kara) who seem to do nothing but travel. They did a video about Buc-ees. First time I ever heard of it. The couple loved it

Current status: have a 12-5pm window for SafeLite to replace my driver’s window over at my sister’s house tomorrow.

Insurance adjuster sent me a link to a search page for preferred repair shops to get airbag replaced and calibrated.

We’re leaving here Thursday and I can’t drop car off here because of glass appointment, so called a shop in Orlando.

Closest ones on the list were all 13 Mike’s or further from CSR. Guy actually made me feel good by saying he needs to check if he can even get the part and will call me back timw to let me know. He didn’t want me to be mad if he promised without checking and parts are hard to get right now.

So, if he can we’ll have to check in to CSR Thursday, then I’ll have to drive a half hour over to shop to drop off car, then Lyft back.

Then Saturday morning I’d have to Lyft to shop before noon. (We’re doing AK Friday.) Guys was the only shop on the insurance list even open Saturdays!

Worst case scenario we go old school and drive home airbagless.

Which Mike are you using. My BIL Mike is barely taller than me. 13 of that would be pretty good! Quite walkable!:wink:

I’m so sorry to hear about your car! People suck sometimes. I hope you don’t have to miss out on too much of your trip sorting it all out.

It’s probably comparable to a Smoot!

Oh my GOD! Did I tell that story here?!?!

I know about Smoots (the MIT pledge) because I went to Wellesley. I’m not sure if you have a separate Smoot story, but I think I’d like to hear it if you do!!

ETA - I figured you might get the reference since you are Boston adjacent.
