Big News for Dining & FP

It’s pretty similar to a buffet. They would need an attendant for them to serve the food and drinks.

I feel so badly for people who have lost their vacations entirely, and now also for people who have lost ADRs and even just plain lost cash on DVC stays where the park is open. I feel like it’s an extension of this whole coronavirus nightmare. Loss. Every one has lost things. Big things, little things. It’s been a tough situation all around. I hope as individuals each group of travelers is finding ways to either make the trips acceptable, or can absorb the losses and move on.

I get that. I am sure they will change the experience so that it can be available in the post Covid world

The one nice thing that could come out of all of this would be the demise of FPP and the advent of a MaxPass type system. But, they could price us out.

The one terrible thing that could come out of all of this is TWDC sees just how little travelers will accept for their “WDW vacation” and have no incentive to make WDW fabulous again. (Who remembers fondly the AK and DHS parades?)

Today was my ADR day for late Nov, early Dec trip. I was looking forward to today. I guess it is better that I missed the ADR shut down by a couple of day, rather than spending all the time to set them up and have them cancelled like my Sept and Oct trips.

Let me know what number you called to cancel. I tried this morning and just got an automated message saying they could not modify reservations at this time. Then the “chat” function was turned off so you couldn’t do that on the MDE page. I want to cancel but I can’t figure out the number to call where you can do that. I have a trip June 17th and still have not gotten an email from Disney and my tickets have not been extended. I also have a trip in Sept. and another in Oct. I need to cancel.

In trying to keep positive on it last night, I realized that for us, this isn’t really a bad thing.
We have almost 2 different generations of kids - my older 2 are late teens early 20’s, and my youngest is 5.

My older kids got to experience WDW in a way that doesn’t exist anymore, and this, for a short time will be a throw back to those days. No Fastpass, no crazy crowds, no constantly pulling out phones to check plans, line times, etc.
I’m actually a little excited to experience it again for a short period. It will be one of those things we’ll look back on.

Good attitude.
But - maybe no characters? That would crush my kids.

Ugh. that has to burst your bubble

Haha, me, too. Is there something wrong with us?

As long as I have the lead time to do it. I’m not going soon, if I. were I’d cancel it. It’s too much time and money to have things up in the air like this.

Yup. I. wouldn’t either.

I’m not going until. next summer, hope it’s straightened out by then.

Also, I’m guessing club level FP are gone with the wind, too? I’d be curious to know what they’re telling those folks. Just because attendance is limited does not mean lines will be short. Count me out until I. know what kind of wait times we’re looking at.

How did I not know you had a visit set for next year?

My 5 year old has only been once last year… He doesn’t really have a precedent set up yet. He doesn’t even know about our December trip yet. I wasn’t going to tell him until we got in the plane. He’s autistic, and perseverates about these kinds of things if given too much time to think about it.

I talk too much about coronavirus and not enough about Disney!
But it’s tentative, for DS21’s graduation from college, which may not happen on schedule.

The people I feel bad for the most is TA’s. This is going to further insure more cancellations.

Disney had to do something to address the elephant in the room in regards to ADR’s and FPP. I do fault them for offering the free dining recovery. When they announced that I could not believe the lack of foresight. I had already been expecting ADR cancellations due to social distancing an then they added gas to the fire by the offering.

Wife and I were talking about this.

I think Disney NEEDS more people to cancel…so they will make these changes/announcements to ensure they have enough people cancel before they can proceed further.

Switching ADRs to 60 days actually I’m perfectly fine with. Happy about, actually. How many times have we complained that it is ridiculous that Disney has made everyone have to plan out what days they will be at what parks 180 days in advance just to get dining reservations? 60 days out seems far more reasonable.

FPP system? I’ll be happy to see it go. Although, I’m sure they will switch to some upcharge system instead eventually.

I have a TA, so she has to cancel.

We are trying the week before Memorial Day next year. Let’s hope it’s close to normal. Although I don’t mind the 60 days for ADRs. So they can keep that. Maybe 30 days for on site FPs would be nice as well.

One more thing…then I have to do some work.

My wife mentioned this as well. I didn’t see it posted, unless it is posted elsewhere. But the mask requirement appears to have been lowered:

So my friend who is an AP got an email that they are cancelling her FP but she’s still good cause she has valid park tickets but her FPs were because of me and the resort reservation is in my name (I just added her as the other guest, like with the FP) and I’ve not received an email yet and everything is still showing up under MDE.
I’m just trying to stay cool and give them time to work out the kinks. I just don’t want to miss out on getting passes to the park since we will be there the week they open. I can wing the rest

However if this was happening on my Thanksgiving 2021 trip that I consider an actual Disney vacation, you bet I would be flipping out more
