I “should” be the same bc I have very low blood pressure (90/60 is my normal) and thyroid disease which makes most people very sensitive to cold. But it’s actually the opposite for me. I can’t tolerate heat.
People often say they’d rather be cold because they can just put on a coat or whatever and warm up. I don’t warm up. I would much rather be too warm and too cold! But I feel like @Jeff_AZ and I are in the minority on that one.
I don’t get warm easily either, I’ve just learned to ignore it better. Side effect of a very broken childhood.
I’m more of a moderate. If there were more moderate Republicans, I think there would be plenty we would agree on. Same with a moderate Democrat. There are some things I agree with on either side of the spectrum. Due to my faith, some people would think I fall under the more conservative group. I don’t. I read things telling me and other groups of Christians that we are evil because we don’t agree with the most conservative groups. I just shake my head because these people do not know what my convictions are. Just as the media doesn’t know yours.
There are people out there (and I’m including both extremes in this) that are quite frankly losing their mind. And I really think these people are in desperate need of help.
If getting off regular social media helps with your anxiety, then do what you have to do.
Agreed. I also noticed that all the articles I’m reading on this are written by Florida papers — I think they are skewing it to “Florida travel prohibited” which is not what the administration is saying. I agree if there are restrictions placed on domestic travel other than what is already in place for some states with testing/quarantining I will go over the edge.
Me too. That one of the reasons why I love Florida ![]()

I’m actually not sure if I’ve ever been ‘too’ warm. I certainly haven’t ever been too warm in Florida. A villa on one trip had the thermostat for the AC locked up with a notice saying not to lower the temp or it will break. It annoyed me because I wanted to turn the temp up. The house was freezing. I had to keep going into the garage for a heat!!
I appreciate you sharing this. I’m part of one of those more conservative groups, and I definitely don’t think you’re evil if you are part of a more liberal-minded denomination than I am. We can all have an opinion on how best to worship and follow the teachings of the Bible, but you are right that we are not to judge others, that job is taken, and we can’t possibly know what others’ convictions are.
IMO, the country is more moderate than anything else. It’s the media who are usually one extreme or the other, pushing agendas for candidates they’ve backed financially to pass policies that are favorable to them personally. I was just saying that I’m not just reacting to a narrative being told to me. I’ve had my life threatened purely because of my political views.
It’s really easy to be a “troll” when there’s the anonymity of fake accounts or the chance to never meet the people you’re debating irl.
I have been off of social media, except this forum, for over 3 years now. I’m just now starting to get my anxiety under control. And yes, I understand that’s much more to do with me and my reception than anything else. And I get just as upset when I see the extremists on my side being jerks too. Treat others as you would want to be treated. That’s pretty much how I live.
My husband and I just watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix. It addresses how social media has led to/contributed to the polarization of people not only here in the US, but around the world. Great watch.
I go to an interesting church. There are people across the political spectrum who attend. But, it definitely has more of a conservative leaning. Our pastor however, will not preach politics. His sermons are strictly Biblical based. Most recently, some of those who attend have apparently gotten upset at him for not preaching politics. I personally am glad he does not.
And I don’t take offense to those people. I only read those things for perspective. I like to know what other people are thinking so I’m not blindsided in a conversation.
That describes my situation to a tee actually. Agree with every word of that.
If you are on the left and believe everything on the left or if you are on the right and believe everything on the right you most likely are the problem. There is way more middle ground but the media does not want the people to find that middle ground.
Honestly, that’s how everyone should live, religious or not.
I’m a pretty left, hardcore atheist. That said, I don’t really care what others believe in the religious sense, despite what some of the more unhinged folks want to portray me as. My husband works for Hasidic Jews, they treat him well, and what they do, or wear, or eat or worship is none of my business. My in laws are strict Catholics. I know people who are Mormons…
My point is, just be a decent person, and believe what you want, as long as it’s not hurting anyone. I think there are way more of us in that position, both religious and not than there are of these extremists on either side that say we’re either all gonna burn in hell, or religion is the source of oppression.
The Golden Rule! We should all aspire to this. It is pretty much my motto …
Absolutely. Thankfully.
I know this went sideways, but thank you all. You gave me things to think about and I feel like I was heard for the first time in a while.
I hear this a lot and I know it’s well-meaning, but in my faith that’s not enough and is a conflicting or even dangerous statement for me. There’s always a disconnect between what’s ok for society and what’s ok for a conservative Christian, but I do try to get more perspective to understand where others are coming from.
I do get that this is a difficult concept for those whose beliefs contain injunctions to proselytize and convert. As a non believer, all I’d ask is that when rebuffed, it’s accepted.
I’ve lost the friendship of a few who would not do that. It got in the way of it friendship and that’s unfortunate.
Thank you, well said.
