Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek Vest

Notice we can bring a camera on the Wild Africa Trek if it can be clipped on to the safety vest. But our cameras are our smart phones. Can we bring our smartphones in our deep pant pockets or does the vest have a pocket for smart phones? Have not seen clip on Smart Phone cases much less those customized to the various smart phones out there.

There are places on the trek where you can’t use your phone unless it’s physically attached to you with a lanyard or similar. Otherwise, you can keep it in the vest pocket.

Can you?

I didn’t think you could bring anything else that wasn’t tethered to your person. Literally everything else stayed in the locker.

Maybe they’ve changed that since I went?

Yep you can bring cameras as long as they can be secured onto your vest.

It’s nice they have photographers though so you don’t need to worry about taking your own photos.

Secured to your vest but not tucked in the vest pocket

That’s what I am looking to clarify

I know you can bring your phone - I brought mine - but it was tethered to me by a cord they provided

I’ve done it twice and I feel like we when did it they pulled the case off of my phone a bit and pulled a lanyard through. At any rate, we didn’t do anything - just showed up with our phones and they took care of it.

We took very few photos though - most of the photos were the ones by the photographer, who was happy to take any photos we requested.

This 100%

I had my phone but the pics the photogs took were amazing and you get all of them as part of your cost to join the Trek

It was like that the last time I went as well.

We just went in December. They give you a wristband thing that they attach to your case, and they attach it to one of the numerous D rings on your vest. So you can have your phone, but the Disney CMs also take pretty nice pictures while you’re out on the Trek! And they give you a card WHICH I forgot to link to my PhotoPass, but luckily they took mercy and gave me the photos after the 45 day mark since I emailed them to ask. So don’t forget to link your pictures lol…

You are likely right and I’m mis-remembering. My husband took his phone, but I don’t think he took any pictures. I left mine in my locker. However, they did let me take a packet of tissues (I had a head cold) as long as I swore I wouldn’t take them out near the animals. Everything needs to be tied down.

Dragging this back up.

So the guides provide a tether for the phone?

Also, did you separately tip your tour guides in addition to the regular cost?

Yep! We went last month.

That’s the same question I asked before our tour. TheSafetyLady said she never tipped WAT tour guides for similar reasons as the following: Money was in our locker. We had 2 tour guides, plus the CMs who helped put on our harnesses, plus the driver, plus the animal specialists (hippos and crocodiles). In our group, nobody tipped. So, we walked away feeling okay about not tipping.

You planning on WAT anytime soon?

Yes please!

I have one booked for May. Very excited but also a little nervous. Not for anything tour related. Mostly because DH will humor me by trying new things, but he ALWAYS has to have access to his phone in case we have a casino go down. 3 hours is a long time :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I may end up doing this one solo.

He will be able to have his phone on WAT.

He doesn’t have a case or anything (he loves living on the edge!), that’s why I was asking if I needed a tether or similar and if there were any recommendations.

Since we didn’t have our phones with us during the tour, I can’t recall how they attached the tether to the phones. Call WAT and ask about needing a case, (407) 938-1373. They are very helpful. I had to leave a message but they called me back quickly.

They definitely attached ours using the case.
