Nope you’re definitely not the only one avoiding them, it’s unfortunate as both my sons love them. Since the reopening if we aren’t in DVC - we are off-site.
I honestly don’t see the value even in the values right now the perks, for my family just aren’t worth it - they just aren’t rope droppers…We get more value from a bigger rooms over at Bonnet Creek Resorts
Makes sense. I stick to on-property since I don’t drive. (I can…I just haven’t since 2006 when I moved to NYC. I figure a rental car in a high tourist area is not the place to re-start. LOL.)
In winter Ill pay for a moderate for the hot tub, lol. But only if it’s a reasonable jump. And having nice dining options is a plus. We aren’t park open to close people though. Otherwise I’ll look for a good deal at Swan or Dolphin. That being said we stay Value half the time. The rooms are nice now that they have updated them all. And I don’t have problems with buses as an adult. Also not opposed to Lyft in the evenings if we don’t want to wait for a bus.
I stayed at CBR once, many years ago because they were offering a very good rate. I don’t think the price point is worth it compared to POP. The difference between mods and deluxe is worth the price gap - if you can afford it. I don’t go as often as some folks here on the forums and for the past 3 trips I have rented points from a friend who is a DVC member at a very good rate. If I couldn’t get points from her I would stay at SOG, and if that’s not available, it would be POP.
It’s funny to me that people keep choosing these two as comparison.
I would argue that perhaps a mod - including CBR - is not worth it as compared to a true value resort (All Stars) because the pricing is dramatically different there. But Pop is so outrageously priced anymore that it’s really more of moderate pricing. So my mind goes to CBR being the better value when you consider that it’s usually not that much more than Pop.
If I’m on a budget, Pop isn’t even a possibility anymore even though it’s my favorite “value”. That Skyliner Premium is a LOT. If I’m going value I’m going value
We more often than not as of late end up at the Gran Destino Tower. The deluxe prices have been too high to swallow (except when I can snag a great deal using JJTs DVC tool) but we still want the deluxe vibes - which we feel we get with GDT. But I know not everyone feels the same so it’s great to have options!
Kind of makes me wonder whether POP should be reclassified as a “moderate”! I know (from reading here) that there are other differences though. It just sounds like they’ve raised the prices (skyliner premium) enough that it’s shifting categories. Maybe “semi-value” lol. I haven’t ridden the skyliner yet. Seems the rates should go down during stormy season, too
I think the water slide and a TS restaurant are the main differences - though POFQ doesn’t have its own TS, but Riverside does so they must think that’s enough. Moderate rooms are bigger but some are bigger than others.
I’ll choose a moderate if it’s a resort only stay with no park time, like before a Disney cruise, or this year, an overnight with two friends where we flew in early Saturday morning and flew home late Sunday night. The goal was pool time, eating, and drinking. CBR was perfect for that.
My moderates of choice are POFQ (for boat to DS and quick beignets) and CBR (for skyliner access to other places for eating/drinking).
If I’m going to parks and won’t be in the room much, I’m choosing Pop every time. I will say since the skyliner, Pop has gotten pricey with the skyliner premium but it’s worth every penny to me since we will hit DHS and Epcot both twice.
I do have a bounce back booked at ASMu for MNSSHP. It needed to be a cheap trip to justify the 4th trip in 10 months and ASMu fits that bill.
Moderate is a tough sell when you have DVC points. A typical DVC Deluxe Studio at my cost of ~$12 point x 15 points is about $180/night, which is competitive with Value. If I don’t have enough points or I’m on a budget, I will go with the cheapest Value room available.
That said, like @OBNurseNH I am on a mission to stay at every resort, so I am currently planning to try CBR this December. We’ll see if I end up switching resorts later.
The only Moderate I have stayed at is POFQ and we had a great time there. Great pool, excellent theming, lots of shade, not too large a footprint, comfy but relatively spacious room, great beignets, ferry to DS, etc. etc. Lots of benefits. I really like the moderate resorts – I’ve visited the grounds of all of them.
I find that you don’t see as many discounts on the Pop rooms so when comparing to All Stars, Pop often looks mod priced. I think the other day I compared Music and Pop. Music could be had for half the price per night. I love the Skyliner. And Pop theming is just OK to me. I actually prefer the All Stars theming to Pop.
FQ by comparison was just $45 or so a night over Pop. Made FQ look like a fantastic bargain and Music look like a steal.
I think there should be a Value+ with AoA and Pop in that category. I also think the Cabins need to be reclassified as Moderates.
Are they changing category with the DVC switch? Hadn’t even thought to check.
Welcome to the Forums!
Same! But I’m thinking I might switch hotels. Not sure yet.
Ok. Were they value at some point? Maybe I’m thinking they should have been deluxe? Whatever it was when we stayed (over 12 or so years ago) I remember thinking it was expensive for the category.
We paid around $350 a night, iirc. Which doesn’t sound bad now. It was a long time ago. And I mathed a little wrong. It was 2006 That might be a few years more than 12 than I care to think about.
