I definitely thought you were talking about someone else :joy:

I mean… have you ever been to Mardi Gras? What’s a little hurricane among friends :tropical_drink:

I think you’re taking the Mardi Gras/hurricane thing all too literally!

Phew our electric company is READY!

Also, “storm season” in New England is NOT August.

My SIL used to work for Eversource and hated the winters.

My DH works for them. Many years ago he used to have to do in person overnight storm duty. We met the night before Hurricane Irene and he got called in. Post-pandemic it’s been less work. Sounds like they have at least a Hurricane Erin “prep” call going.

I would be curious if he knows Wendy at all! She did storm duty for many years.

4th of July weekend, Eversource shut off my electricity for non payment (spoiler alert, I have never not paid my bill…it was a mistake) - I was chatting with the emergency guy that was on call while we waited for building security. He was talking about how easy summer was compared to winter emergency duty. He had some fun, crazy stories (and was SUPER handsome). Also, Eversource, infuriating - still trying to untangle this mess.

Did you get a name? I’ll get you an intro.

And Eversource threatens to shut me off for “non payment” ALL the freaking time (because I don’t actually pay, I earn solar credits) but they have never actually shut it off. That is ridiculous that they shut you off.

Also, DH would agree with you there.

Nantucket [Island of]

This is crazy to me since she doesn’t appear to get that far north until Thurs/Fri!

Ah, well, we also spent a lot of time talking about his kids…soooo…

Well, they didn’t shut me off persay. They shut off a person who said they lived in my apartment and just never paid a bill - that has apparently previously run a scam in other apartment buildings doing this same thing. Eversource doesn’t tell you when someone has claimed your electricity as theirs. They just throw a thing on the bottom of your bill saying this is your final bill (I’m paperless, I don’t pay attention to the bill…that’s on me) - I just have autopay set up for the same amount every month. So, here I was paying into a ‘closed account’ for almost a year. Had no idea.

Damn it.

Ok I’m not following the scam. They are taking over your apartment and giving you a different bill somehow?

Scam isn’t quite the right word…fraud? I don’t know all of the details, the management company doesn’t want to share everything. They move in to the building, have to prove they have their utilities set up…so they pick a different apartment number in the same building when they call Eversource. Move out in about 6 months, when people might catch on. They’re never on the hook for the electricity…even though it is in their name. Get free utilities in the apartment they’re living in (because they never shut them off).

I see. I mean I think scam sound accurate. Sorry you have to deal with that! For what it’s worth, I never actually open the e-bill either.

That’s madness!

They also were pulling boats from the water per a post I saw on FB

But they are used to it. My friend who lives there says they mostly take it all in stride

What benefit is there to the scammer if they claim your apartment number? Why would the power company give power to one apartment but bill it to another? Is that what’s going on?
