This always amazes me (that the dust comes all that way).

Goodness! I skip checking the NWS hurricane forecast for a couple days (we’re out of town), and look what popped up! Hurricane Beryl got a name.

This is from 8:00pm EDT.

This one is from 11:00 pm AST.

The US isn’t out of the woods just yet but man this is a strong storm. I hadn’t heard any weather caster predict it would become a 5!

Yeah, we’re out of town so really hope it doesn’t veer north. We have friends that can do some prep for us, but really don’t want to do that.

This is always in the back of our minds with travel late June through early October. And I do not attempt travel mid August - September. We have animals and a MiL at home. DH has 8 different properties (some duplexes and 4 plexes) that need to be preped for hurricane. So if it looks like one is coming our way we have to be home ASAP.

Omigosh! I can’t imagine the prep. One wears me out!

Some properties get boarded up windows, some just get a yard clean-up/ inspection. We try to cut all grass. The properties with shutters, he makes sure the tenants know how to latch them and keep them latched. He checks that all his keys work in case of an emergency (because people change locks from time to time). If its close the the begining of the month all AC filters get checked/ changed. One property he checks the drains at the street to make sure they are clear. Just basic stuff. We also like to know which tenants are in town, out of town on vacation or planning to evacuate.

Houston weather peeps starting to get a little nervous…

This storm is really scary. I doubt the Caribbean was really prepared quite this early.

Just to be clear, this is an off-topic storm for Disney purposes.

But those of us in Texas (and Louisiana at a much lower probability) still need to be montoring.

When these things are so strong they can have a mind of its own!! I pray this thing finally weakens like predicted. But I fear this thing isn’t following any rules! Parts of TX will most likely be effected.
Praying for Jamaica today too.

Checking in on our Texas friends this morning as Beryl makes landfall. I’m hoping everyone is safe and damage is minimal.

Well, we’re currently vacationing in Canada so hoping all is well at home. :crossed_fingers:

Our house is just west of the blue marker.

Sounds like 30 mph winds with 60-80 mph gusts. 5” rain already last I heard. Power cutting in and out, we think.

Our house/petsitter took the canopy off our gazebo and hopefully that’s sufficient. It’s probably about all we would have done if we’d been home. The automatic cat feeder is on a UPS backup for power. Hoping the pond doesn’t overflow with potential for fish to escape but they’re cheap fish anyway.

The house/petsitter will give us an update afterwards. Haven’t heard any reports of tornados spawned in our neighborhood, and that’s what’s caused the most damage in our area in past storms. Followed by downed trees. Our street doesn’t flood (even during Harvey) so that’s a low risk for us.

Just kinda bummed I don’t get to observe how the still-not-complete drainage system is handling it.
