2012 trip report - Mayhem and Meltdowns aka Travels with my Family and Other Animals

DH constantly says that he will drive straight through from Central Mass to Orlando instead of paying money for airfare with the caveat that he will ‘only be junk for the first day’. What a great way to start off a vacation…no thank you!

I would never write something like that on this forum, but I might think it

How annoying of the contractors!

I’m glad to give you a laugh! It’s funny when you look back, not so much at the time - but the heat and tiredness makes you act out of character sometimes.

@FindMeAFishingSpot- We’ve been driving (& flying as well) to disney since 80s. As a single parent I drove straight thru many times, with a short snooze at welcome center somewhere on the way. I was tired, but up and at em the next day. And Ds was fine the next morning, after he fully woke up after a few coffees & of course the welcome show, which was so upbeat, you have to grin.

The secret for us is to catch that 3ish hour catnap somehow, and of course to stop for breakfast at a cracker barrel (fam tradition). I think the meltdown wouldn’t even have happened except the Courtyard we always stay at (we were at Dolphin 2nd half) screwed up our reservations, so we didn;t get close to the nice rooms they always give us. My friend who works there was out on sick leave, so things got screwy a bit. The zombie boy wasn’t equipped for any bumps in the road that night, Mr Goofy.

I am laughing about the Betty Boop merch! Too funny! You are a good daughter to be graceful about it!

Loved reading your trip report so much that I went and read the 2016 one as well (though I was briefly confused by your husband’s name switch from Steve to Cass  ). You managed to pack so much into your time.

I enjoyed your tales of traveling with extended family. We’ve only done short trips with my parents which went well, but we have a cruise planned for next summer with my husband’s four brothers and sisters and their spouses. I think we’ll be okay but who knows? I am sure that we couldn’t travel with my brother and sister-in-law. She would never get on board with all of my planning. Of course she is not a fan of traveling in general. When my brother’s company provided them with an all expense paid trip to Miami, she didn’t want to go and actually asked who would want to go to Florida in February?!! Um, everyone?

She’s actually stopped buying it for me now, though funnily enough I’m currently wearing a Betty Boop pyjama top she got me a few years ago :joy:

I don’t know why I called him Steve in this one!! I always call him Cass.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m hoping my trip with my parents goes well too! I’m sure your cruise will too. I can’t imagine not wanting to go to Florida at any time of year!!

Thank you. Pot of coffee ready. Pouring with rain here so avoiding supermarket and delaying dog walk etc. You are my excuse!
