World Cup Impact

There are a substantial number of people from South America in the parks. DH would use the soccer jerseys from someone in a group to guess where they came from. That got us thinking. World Cup. People travelling internationally won’t be in for one game and there will be many days where they have free time. They might be at the parks, particularly if that was a lure to the non-soccer fan part of the family. We aren’t planning another trip, but if we were it wouldn’t be in or around the World Cup.

You think families will travel to Orlando on their way to/from Miami?

I believe Disney is showing signs of low bookings (new summer deals) but it may be something to watch.

We were at MK during the '96 Olympics in Atlanta, thinking it was too far away to have an impact on crowds.

We were very, very wrong.

Also, once you’ve traveled across the ocean a short flight mid-trip is probably nothing.

It will be interesting. As a former middle school principal/assistant superintendent /superintendent in a school system where the World Cup was an amazing time, everyone would be going to FL if they could, but they will not this year.

Not political, just an observation.

Brightline runs from Miami to Orlando. With Europeans already used to rail travel, I would not be surprised if bookings pick up in the spring.

I think this is missing one possible game (teams to be determined) but this seems to be the initial schedule

Not 100% on topic, but hope it helps…

When the is a BIG game, even international, NBC Grill hosts events open to the public. All the TVs, including the outdoor giant screens will have it on.

USF, sometimes, plays the game on the large screen at the concert stage.

I have seen it personally!

We noticed this too. And with 4 days at UOR and 4 at WDW, I can say it is completely a UOR thing. There has been very little representation at WDW. My family and I figured Universal is doing some major advertising in Brazil, as we were shocked that probably 1 out of every 3 people in UOR was South American (with Brazil being especially highlighted based on how much Portugese was being spoken). Over here at WDW it seems like most people are American, with a large amount of runners based on all the shirts and medals we have seen.
