Wild Africa Trek - worth the splurge?

Hey Team. Anyone done this recently and if so what’s your thoughts, please? A few of the other articles are a bit old now. We are going late August and was thinking of a treat for my girls (they’re 19 & 26). IS it 3 hours? or a lot of waiting around? Recommended time to go - early doors or later on? Is the food any good? I’m not a fan of the Disney up-charging so have resisted dessert parties, after hours etc as I rarely see the value in them (for us). This one looks like one they will enjoy.

Not really recently, but I did it 3 or 4 years ago with my DD (14 or 15 at the time) and it’s still to this day one of our favorite things we’ve ever done at Disney. I am planning to do it again in August with the whole family of 4. For August, I would definitely do the earliest available slot (to avoid the hottest parts of the day). From what I recall, it was indeed 3 hours and there wasn’t a lot of standing around. The only times I can remember waiting was during the initial prep when everyone gets suited up, and when everyone had to take turns going one at a time over the rope bridge. We enjoyed the food very much. It’s pretty much the same food as on the Savor the Savanna tour. If I remember correctly, it’s made at Tiffins.

I’ve done it multiple times and it is fabulous. It is rough in the summer when it’s really hot and humid. I feel like the three hours flies by. There is not a ton of just standing waiting around. The food on the savanna is delicious. And while they call it a snack to me it was more than enough for a meal.

It had also been a highlight of our DW trip.
Only problem is that we found ourselves humming the Gilligans theme song “Three hour tour”

We too liked the food at the end. Think of it as an African version of a bento box. None of us liked everything in our box but with trading everything was eaten and we were all happy.

I think that’s why they call it a snack, though to me it was a meal. Even the pickier eaters in our group were able to get enough to eat by trading off with others in our group. @Stu007 I hope you are able to get the time slot you want. I really enjoyed it and would do it again, even with how expensive it is.

Thanks all. Will defo try and get that given the feedback. 60 day booking window job I presume? My youngest DD is a picky eater so this has an added bonus of sneaking a Tiffins taster in! Can’t wait now. Doing EPIC for 2 days prior to WDW and not doing the Royal Pacific so spending that dough on this. We’ve never done an uncharge event at all. But now we are DVC its less about running around and more about stopping to smell the roses.

This Forum will get you hooked on all kinds of extras. :face_with_peeking_eye:  After this may I suggest the Keys to the Kingdom tour in MK? I’m sure lots of us would have suggestions of how to spend your money.

I’ll vouch for that!

This is an awesome tour! I need to do it again because there the tour guide shares so much information and there are lots of details to see.

Between FOMO and enabling, the Forum has found numerous ways for me to spend money at Disney and on Disney stuff!

I haven’t done WAT recently. My only time was three years ago in February. I’ll echo everyone else, it was a fabulous experience! It was our first extra event and we thoroughly enjoyed it! I need to do WAT another time!

This is a very hot and humid time of year. Get the first tour of the day. While the tour guides will find you animals, animals are more active during the ‘cooler’ parts of the day or when it is raining.

There wasn’t a lot of waiting around like a queue. In the beginning, CMs are harnessing the guests and double checking the harnesses but there are a lot of them. We fill our included water bodies and another CM took pictures of each group.

We also had to wait for the groups to be hooked at different points. The waits didn’t seem long because there was so much to see. If you bring your camera, whatever waiting there is will go by too quickly with front row picture taking! We forgot our charging cord that day and my phone was very low on charge! While the CMs take pictures throughout WAT, we missed not having our own cameras!

I had to look up our food.

We enjoyed the ‘snack’ so much, we booked an ADR for Tiffins on our next trip! And now we try to go to Tiffins every other trip! :face_savoring_food:

Again, our WAT tour was more than 3 years ago and you have seen old articles. If you are interested, I write about it in detail beginning here: https://forum.touringplans.com/t/chip-n-dale-host-their-friends-at-their-fl-home/92283/467?u=stlouie.

Enjoy and remember to bring at least one fully charged phone on WAT for pictures!

Definitely one of the best upcharges at Disney! I would recommend morning for a summer tour. Have fun!

Thank you! I forgot to ask if they let you bring your phone - they often don’t let them without being tethered for those “rope/climbing” type of thing. I have a an iPhone and a GoPro so that would be great.

Amazing response People! Thank you.

Yes, worth it! My 13yr old son and I went last year and had a great time. For Aug I’d try to get the earliest tour of the day, probably 8am.

The first part was getting fitted for everything then walking around and learning about some of the animals. They have areas where you hook on so you can walk closer. Then you go over the bridges and have lunch. Food was good and took some pics in the area! Next was a more personal safari where they can stop and talk about animals. Got closer than the regular safari. They take pics and all are included in the price and they give you code to download after the tour.

We did this last September and I strongly recommend it. The food was good, but it was eating it while watching the animals on the savanna that made it special. There isn’t much standing around, but the few times we did have to wait for others there was shade and water and usually places to sit if you wanted.

We also did the Keys to the Kingdom tour on that trip. I had been wanting to do it for a while, but was waiting for the kids to be old enough to go or be on their own. I will definitely do this one again.

Both were worth the money and time spent in my opinion.

Have a great trip!
