I’ve never stayed there, but a coworker always stays at the residence inn just off property. They love it, and can get a much larger room with a kitchen. She also said they have shuttle service to the parks.
No particular hotel recommendations here, but remember that because of the Starwood/Marriott merger you can convert your Marriott Rewards points to Starpoints (3 Marriott Rewards points = 1 Starpoint). This gives you more options, including the Swan and Dolphin resorts.
