I would really to enjoy your stories of your first ride ( or one of your first if you can’t remember ). Mine was Snow White. My family was truly confused and just headed for the first ride in site. It was so magical for me.
Welll…since it was only two days ago it wasn’t too hard to remember!
It was JC. However, I am used JC at WDW. At WDW it’s full of jokes. Out here they take it “seriously” and it’s no fun.
It was “look at this and that” then it was over.
Do the same thing at WDW but you just caught a bad skipper.
Ok… That’s good to know! I love JC and was so disappointed. I’ll give it another chance today!
I’m struggling to remember what my very first ride was. The first time I went to Disneyland I was 8 years old (~1991). All I know is that I was instantly enamored with the place and I have been back at least annually ever since, other than a few exceptions.
One thing I remember from the 90s - not necessarily my first trip - was when Space Mountain had a video loop playing in the queue. I’m pretty sure Mario Lopez was in it. There was like a space weather report and other news reports from around the galaxy. Something like that.
Yeah, that’s not how it’s supposed to go. It could be the skipper was going for the driest of very dry humor with deadpan delivery and it flopped? But glad to see you’ll give it a second shot.
Nah… she was either tired or didn’t care.
I’ve seen JC Skipper “dry humor”. She didn’t even tell a joke. I heard like one pun the whole time.
Plus, she mummbled the whole cruise.
I was genuinely confused if it was supposed to be like that or not
My first trip to DL was 1992 and I was 6. I have 4 memories of that day, 2 distinct and 2 hazy. I’m not sure what order they happened on that day, but my I know one of my distinct ones was in the daytime, my 2 hazy ones were who knows when and my last distinct one was at night.
My 2 hazy ones are:
1- Country Bear Jamboree: I just remember being in the back of a very dark room listening to a bear in a blue coat and hat sing on a stage way off in the distance. I remember most how dark it was.
2- Space Mtn: Again, the most I remember is it was just dark all around me. But also that I was moving fast through it, and I know it was just me and my dad as I was the only kid tall enough so my dad took me.
And then my two distinct ones:
1- Pirates of the Caribbean: I remember coming around the corner to the treasure room and I was at the edge/outside seat of the boat with a full view of what to my 6 yr old self seemed like the most massive pile of treasure and gold coins and I just remember being in awe at how cool and gigantic that the pirate treasure was, and the skeletons were intriguing to me too & very on Pirate theme.
2- it’s a small world: I had fallen asleep on the ride and woke up at the final room where all the dolls were in white. I was spooked out by their faces that seemed creepy to me and I did NOT want to keep watching them so I buried my face into my mom’s arm or lap. It took me over 2 decades to willingly ride small world again when I brought my 2 little kids for their first time. My oldest, then 2, fell in love and asked to ride “the boat castle” many more times in his toddler years. And now it’s a family favorite.
I do think that this happens more often in DL and when I get on a cruise like that, I always feel like I need an instant redo. But I also have only ridden JC in WDW twice compared to countless times in DLR so my sample sizes are way off to be able to actually make a comparison.
Apparently this was from WDW . . . I do seem to remember it tied in with XS / Alien Encounter? I don’t know, too many details, too long ago. My brain is a fog.
Having already been to WDW multiple times, my first visit to DLR was in 1990. I headed straight to Matterhorn where I partnered with a young child who was unable to safely ride solo and who’s grandparents didn’t feel comfortable riding with him. It was my first opportunity to spread Pixie Dust.
My first ride at DL was Mr. Toad. Decided on it for the first ride because of its history. Also need to comment on JC. I was just at DL a few weeks ago. I have ridden JC quite a few times at WDW it was my first time riding it at DL. The Skipper we had was great. I thought he was the best one of all my rides on it. @darkmite2 you should definitely try again!
I don’t know my very first- I went once when I was quite young- but I remember a ski-lift ride through Matterhorn. Don’t remember a single other thing from that day but I do remember thinking that ride looked scary!
I took my kids a few years ago and we made a beeline for Radiator Springs Racer, but if we aren’t counting that park, it would be Matterhorn! We went there first after hopping parks, I’d already waited 40 years to try it :).
I can’t recall the order of riding things at DL for the first time. I believe I was about 12 at the time, so maybe 1985?
But a few memories.
Since I had been to MK before, I remember thinking how uncanny things felt. It was the same…kind of. Familiar, yet not.
Space Mountain seemed like a better version, but I missed the single file layout simply because the side-by-side felt somehow less magical.
I remember riding Matterhorn and worrying I might lose my head on that ride!
Other “memories” I have I am not sure if I am conflating with MK or not, so I can’t say for sure it was DL or not.
Ok… I do want to update. I did ride again. I specifically asked to sit next to the Skipper and for a really “funny” ride.
They took care of me and I got all the best Dad jokes. We’ll just say that was my first time!!
I just shared this story for the first time yesterday!
As an adult in my 40’s who had been to WDW multiple times, I added on an afternoon/evening to a work trip. I had FP but the times were later in the day, so I went for a “only at DL” ride with short line - Casey Jr. Circus Train.
I had never been in a park by myself and was anxious and nervous. They counted us off and sent us all out to just board the train. I didn’t know where to go, and there was no car for one person. I ended up in the tiger cage with a family of three
Yay! I’m glad it worked out better the second time! That’s so great that they took care of you.
Was this the day that we were in DL the same day & I warned you away from the Nemo subs???
Yes it was!!! You were my safety net on a day I was pretty overwhelmed but incredibly happy.
Glad you got a funny skipper this time around. My skipper was really funny and when we got to the classic backside of water joke he gave it a little twist by chanting “O2H” it was pretty funny
