What do you think of the Kidani Village updates?

Just stayed in one of the newly refurbished two bedrooms at kidani village and I really dislike the design choices! Here’s my tour:

Is it just me or does it feel wilderness lodge-y and just kinda ugly?! I love this resort so much… am hoping the jambo refurbs are more aesthetically pleasing! What do you think?

PS yes I told a white lie and said I thought the updates were gorgeous. Well the tub IS gorgeous but that’s it imo. And it’s gorgeous to just be at AKL period, no matter what the decor. Can I go back yet?!

I love the updates! I especially love that artwork on the Murphy bed.

I like Wilderness Lodge - one of my favorite resorts - so maybe that’s why it doesn’t bother me. But I think it has a distinctly African flavor as well.

The carpet is ugly and I wish they stopped using carpet altogether. It just clashes with the rest of it.

Did you like the look before the refurb? They have always been similar to WL because the architect is the same. I really like the look of the new rooms.

I think they did a beautiful job brightening up the villas without erasing the uniqueness of AKL.

The artwork looks fantastic and I personally love the decor.

I can’t wait to stay at AKL!

I absolutely love it. I do agree with @SirGreggLadyV. I wish they had hardwood floors in the bedrooms but Inlove the refurbished rooms.

There was a question today on chat about the pull down bed and the thickness of the mattress. There seems to be two sizes in these resort refurbishments. Sometimes they are as thick as a iPhone, sometimes they are the same thickness as the bedroom mattresses, Did you notice?

I thought it had been determined that the secondary pull-down sofa beds were all of the same thickness? I thought it was just the duo studios or something that had thicker ones.

They’re pretty thin but seemed to be the same as the riviera two bedroom

I think they are still saying all of the Riviera mattresses are the thicker ones. The liner that has been asking says it is all tower mattresses (and maybe BLT?). I did not check the BWV thickness but even right after the rooms reopened, I did not like the Murphy mattress. It could have been because I had stayed a few days in Universal right before, and I love their mattress.

Yes the carpet is hideous! I think that’s my main complaint, that and the curtains in the living room.

Thanks! I am going to have to measure the Riviera during my next stay.

I’m looking and maybe the kidani ones are actually thinner than riviera?? The teenagers who slept on them didn’t complain.

Yes. A definite 70s vibe.

If it’s not too intrusive, which Uni hotel(s) have mattresses you love? At this point of my middle age sleep has turned into a more complicated activity for me and so mattresses are a bigger deal to me in hotels!

For me, Portofino and Helios!! And the wish class Disney cruise line has the best of all…. Like want to cruise on the destiny again just for the mattress

Love that! I’ve been fine with cruise mattresses except once on NCL Joy. I think my best one was on Holland America and my partner pulled up the sheet to see what kind of mattress he was :joy: *it was

I will be 65 next month and mattresses are a big deal for me too! I have stayed at RPR, Portofino, Sapphire Falls (I think that was the Uni to BWV) and Aventura multiple times. I am staying at Stella Nova and Hard Rock next month.

Is the split stay for epic? I was thinking of that, as I very sketchily see if this trip is possible (might not be, besides budget - just work stuff) - mostly not because of proximity per se but if I were to stay at a signature with unlimited express I’d feel like I was wasting the cost of that stay if I went to epic for two days!

Yes, it is a split for Epic (first time). Two days Epic, and one day at IOA/US.

I was thinking about the beds- I think I prefer Sapphire Falls to Aventura but Aventura was so much better than AKV last October.
