I wonder about dessicants. Perhaps wait for paper towel conclusions first tho. Point being to use wicking material that is easily obtained. Which is paper towels more so than newspaper nowadays.

Yes, @ParkRanger should repeat the experiment using Epcot puddle water vs POTC “water” to see if the experiments results are repeatable. You’re paying, right?

This is an interesting side trip tho possibly less generally useful to the following readers. 
One wonders if in the pursuit of science adequate profiles of each water source are in order, further taxing both the experimenter and audience.

Just in case you forgot to bring newspaper on your trip, the paper towels from the resort lobby bathrooms also work to dry out the shoes over night.
