Washington Dis Ney - a trip report

DD20 (now) and I are headed back to DC to visit big sis, DD22. It’s another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it trip with just one full day tomorrow.

Now that DD22 has been living in DC for six months, she’s more familiar with the ins and outs and is crafting a full touring plan for the day. So far we have Ford’s Theater, Library of Congress, and the Holocaust Museum on the agenda. Hoping to add the Air & Space Museum tomorrow morning when same day tickets drop. :crossed_fingers:

Tonight we’re going to hang out at DD22’s work with her. She moonlights as a server at Churchkey. If we have to stay until she’s off, I’m going to be exhausted tomorrow!

Dinner at the restaurant/bar where DD22 is a PT server. We stayed out way too late!

Got up early and headed to Ford’s Theater.

Several stories of books about President Lincoln.
The girls high school is Lincoln and their mascot is the Abes, so it felt a little weird to see so much Lincoln merch that wasn’t linked to school!

Then it was on to my favorite stop of the day - the Library of Congress! Beautiful! I wish we’d had more time here.

Then it was on to the Holocaust Museum. No pictures here. No words right now.

Then we got food truck food and sat in the grass to eat. The food was overpriced and just okay but the view was amazing!

Last stop was Air and Space Museum. We didn’t do this place justice but I think we were all a little spent emotionally and physically by this point!

Check out this x wing and the droid! These were used in filming the original trilogy I believe.

Then we came home, ordered pizza, and watched Top Gun Maverick. It was great! Everyone had seen it except me. Made me want to watch the original.

Tomorrow we’re homeward bound but May do a farmer’s market before we go.

Sounds like a wonderful day! I can’t believe how warm it was today.

The Library of Congress is a hidden gem - most beautiful of the buildings by far!

Safe travels home!

She’s a Liner! She’s got training behind her! Like some CMs who are trained but never work

Yes and it was exhausting after being out until 2:00 am the night before! I did nothing today. The girls went to a farmer’s market. Now we’re boarding our flight out of Baltimore. Dreading that I have a 7:00 am dentist appointment tomorrow.

For a second I thought you were at the Boardwalk Inn.

You picked such a lovely weekend to come! And packed in so much. I totally agree that the Jefferson Bldg at the LOC is a hidden gem. And for next time I highly recommend Mount Vernon, my personal favorite in the area.

I’ve actually been to Mount Vernon but it was literally 40 years ago! I would love to visit there again. DC is such a pretty city.
