Walk-up Character Breakfasts

Hi Liners,

Has anyone gotten a walk-up breakfast spot recently at any of the Character dining at Resorts? I haven’t been able to get a reservation for 5 for this Friday morning, and am hoping we might get lucky with walk up. It’s a non-park day so trying to see Mickey (and/or Friends) for our little travelers.

If you’ve had luck, can you let me know where? We are staying on property, and I have a plan to get us to any of the resorts needed. Plus, the kiddos love the bus ride to HS, the skyliner either to Rivera or Cape May. Our Friday is “Transportation Day” where we aim to use every method - bus, boat, monorail, & skyliner!

Thanks,
Angie

I think your best bet is to keep looking for an ADR in the app. I’d hate to take my kids to a restaurant and have them expecting to eat and see characters and then not be able to get in.

Agree. Since people get charged if they don’t cancel the ADR at least 2 hours prior, some availability may show up same day due to cancellations.

I think you can also join the walk up list that morning. If it’s full, then you will not be able to.

I was able to get an Ohana breakfast for 7 people, last minute, by looking at reservations the night before.

I also got a Chef Mickeys dinner for 6 just a day or two before the reservation.

Same for Topollino’s.

I found a ton of Cape May availability 48 hours before the day of the reservation. I was trying to move my ADR time, so was watching and then all.of a sudden there was a lot.

Its a great character experience, but no Mickey. Its also a high quality buffet.

Try looking for a reservation for 6 instead of 5. Availability for odd numbers is always terrible.

This was 2 years ago, but I got Cape May the night before. That was for 27th Dec - when DS suddenly said “are we doing any character meals this trip”?

I’d only been asking for dining requests for 6 months!

So true and so bizarre

Love it when you’ve been asking for input for months and the input comes in the moment (when it’s often too late).

Nice save!

And this was the 2-year delayed Covid trip. Which was planned for his 21st. :joy::joy:

Have you tried looking for 6?

No, good call. I actually found one for 4, grabbed it, and keep trying to modify to 5. But looking for 6 is a good idea!

They generally won’t allow an extra person. And if they do it’s because they have walk up availability. When we’ve been a party of 3 or 5 I’ve always checked for 4 and 6 respectively. It’s weird they way reservations worked. I’ve never found availability for 5 ppl over 6 ppl. But I have found stuff for 6 when nothing showed for 5. Silly. But I hope it works!! Also, try searching from scratch as well. Don’t ask me why but sometimes trying to modify works differently than a new reservation.

I have actually found that you typically can add 1 person to the ressie at time of check-in

Edited: never a guarantee though so best to secure for the right number if possible

At character dining? Last December I watched a family get turned away (well told 1.5 hours wait to add them) at The Crystal Palace. I felt bad because I had a resi for 4 and only 3 people. Not that it matters. I just wished I could have offered my “chair”. It was VERY busy though.
ETA: I see that you ETA as well. Yes. Better to secure first if possible. Also, maybe checking in an hour early to see what can be worked out.

Yes, everywhere really except Space 220 and … what was the other one??? This was just discussed the other day in another thread.

Not sure but I vaguely remember this discussion. I thought going up 1 table size could prove to be an issue if they were busy though (2 top to 4 top, 4 top to 6 top).

Updates - I did not intend to have a reservation for 4 and show up with 5. I was hoping the modification method would work.
I was not able to modify to find one for 6 people. But, searching for a new reservation for 6 made one pop up. So made the new one, canceled the old one.

Thanks for the tips, it helped!

It’s really silly how that system works! Glad you got what you need though :raised_hands:
