Tomorrow morning we fly out of Boston for what has been for the past few years our annual Spring Break trip to WDW. Being creatures of habit, we booked again at YC – wait, that’s not right. Actually, since Stormalong Bay is closed and under refurbishment this year, we decided to try something else and cross something off our bucket list - staying on a monorail resort. And so we are staying at the Grand Floridian this year, for the first time with our kids, although DW and I did honeymoon at that hotel a little over 20 years ago. That, along with the fact that our kids really love having a balcony (we have the same picture from every trip of the kids eating on our balcony on the first day of the trip, and that picture has not ever been staged).
And since we were going with bucket list, we splurged for Theme Park view! (Actually we got a pretty good discount and that view ended up being less than water view, go figure…). So HEA from our balcony should be a thing. I also am looking forward to the Electric water pageant, which I remember seeing from 20 years ago.
We are also going to make this more of an MK focused trip. Usually, being on Crescent Lake, we spend a lot of time at Epcot. But being just a stop away from MK, I think we will naturally spend more time there this year.
Who:. Myself, DW, DS14, and DS7.
When: April 22-29
Where: Grand Floridian
Just a disclaimer for those who don’t know me - I’m terrible at trip reports - when I’ve tried I’ve ended up abandoning it halfway through the trip. So I’ll keep it casual - post some pictures, random comments, any observations I have, rather than daily narratives. I’m also very curious as to how the trip will go with the new LLMP/LLSP.
Now that I’m in the Disney mindset, I can’t wait to just be there tomorrow. Here we go!
I have been only flying JetBlue since Covid. We love terminal C at MCO. I think our return flight to Logan has been delayed almost every trip over the last few years. Last trip we had breakfast at the Sunshine Cafe (Chef Art Smith’s restaurant) but often we have a snack at Wine Bar George during those delays:
Have a great trip, Mike! We will be there next week. Very interested in hearing about your experiences with LLMP and LLSP as well as hearing about all of the fun!
Better the return flight than the flight to MCO. Last trip we were delayed 3 hours (announced in 1 hour increments) on the flight to MCO and my kids were worried about our HS LL times. They kept asking if we would get there in time for SDD.
Well, we somehow managed to get everything packed and done by about 11:00 last night. Somehow no matter how much time we leave, that always seems to be the case. And this time we did not leave a lot of time, so we were scrambling all yesterday.
The weekend was good - DS14’s teams won 2 out of the 3 games he played in this weekend, and my son had his pitching debut with his new travel team. He pitched 1 1/3, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K. He also was 2-2 hitting, with 2 R and 2 RBI, walked twice and was hit by two pitches (!).
On Sunday we had a nice low key Easter with DW’s parents, which was a nice counter to the Monday stresser.
Getting to the airport was uneventful. HOV lane made the trip smooth and pretty fast for rush hour. It took a bit to get parking even though we had pre-reserved, and then our bag tags wouldn’t print, but we got it all resolved, got to our gate, and are now onboard the plane (fully boarded) with 20 minutes to spare for an on-time flight. So here we go!
