Volcano Bay Plan

I’m trying to come up with a plan to waste as little time as possible when Volcano Bay opens. Looking for some tips to minimize friction points when going in. So…

-Pick up a towel from the hotel pool the night before to take with us.

-When arriving, I’ve seen some people mention entering through Cabana Bay is a smoother process. We’re staying at Hard Rock and taking the shuttle over so… is this worth worrying about?

-Aside from Waturi Beach, it looks like most of the action is on the backside of the volcano. I’m thinking after getting our TapuTapus, we’ll head to the left, go past the volcano, and get a locker in Rainforest Village to avoid crowds. Are there any free chairs in this area or is this all premium seating?

-How far ahead of early entry should we plan on catching a shuttle at Hard Rock?

Thanks!

Probably not. I will always prefer the CBBR entrance, but it’s out of your way to get there. For a first time visitor you’d have to navigate how to get there and find the enterance…

If you are going to EPA this area of VB will not be open until the regular hours. They only open the front half of VB. The red lines are how far you can go during EPA.

On the map, any roof with circled in blue color is a free covered area.

At least 30 - 45 minutes in advance… I actually do 60 minutes, but I go solo and am crazy! I want to be first at the entrance! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So first off, @darkmite2 … you are a treasure trove of information. I’ve learned so much from your posts on this forum, thank you.

Looking at those red lines… well that stinks. So the only lockers available will be just inside the entrance to the left, and the far right end of Wave Village. Bummer.

Two things though…
-We’re traveling during Thanksgiving week (might be cool in the morning, but lots of people).
-I’m buying express for VB.
Knowing that… is there much advantage to getting there for early entry? I would be fine getting there a few minutes before 10:00, but I don’t know how chaotic it is at that time. I guess that means we probably wouldn’t be able to ride Krakatau twice.

You’re Welcome! I, genuinely, love being able to talk about UOR. I try to go a few times each year, but haven’t been since last December. I had to cancel three trips this year… uuuggghh!

Getting to help you is a great way for me to still being doing “something” Universal related.

(I was a WDW mega fan for 30+ years. I still go, but only to the parties these days)

It’s staffing issues. They don’t operate every slide during EPA, just those near the front half of the park and wave pool. You can’t even get in either lazy river until park opening either…

Yes. This area at the front is my favorite free shaded area. It’s right past the gift shops and next to the lockers. Plus, it’s not too far away from food and cocktails. (Kohola Reef & Dancing Dragons)

It is inconvenient if you are at the back of the park and need to take a break. However, there’s enough free covered space that you don’t have to “compete / fight” for it like a couple areas in the back. Plus, IMHO, these stay shaded all day.

That’s just me…everyone has their own favorite spot.

Yes! This is because you have to “activate” your express pass at the concierge / guest services desk to begin using it. (This may have changed since I used UXP at VB in 2022… You may be able to activate it in the app these days…)

The UXP (Express Pass) will allow you only one time to enter the queue of a slide without any waiting.

If you go to EPA (Early Park Admission) you can wait to activate your UXP until park opening. This will allow you to go on the most popular slides like Krakatau 2 - 3 times with little to no wait without “wasting” an express pass admission. You can come back to those slides after park opening to repeat them using UXP.

You’ll see Krakatau with a posted wait often at 240+ minutes or “at capacity” by lunch time on peak days.

I love the Tapu Tapu system of “tapping in” to get your reservation and then it vibrates / tells you when to return. You still have to wait in a short queue, but you can go explore inside the volcano, relax in the lazy river, get food / drinks & etc… while you wait to be called.

Thanks again!

I understand it’s hard to staff all rides for early entry. I guess I thought they would allow guests a little more room to roam, especially since Krakatau is on the early entry list and towards the back anyway.

I’ll probably take your advice and set up shop at the covered area up front. Early entry, grab express passes, hit some more slides, grab lunch, then head toward the back.

Just throwing this out there as an option for you. There is a smaller 8 person covered structure nearby too. It’s one of two at the park. It is accessible during EPA. Unlisted on the map, so kind of a secret. I’ve circled in red the location. It’s a little more private and actually has a concrete floor instead of sand. Also sharing a picture of it.

The food is surprisingly good at Kolha Reef!

VB is my favorite of all the parks and the food is a big part of that!
