Hi all - can you help? I’m a first-time cruiser on a very merrytime Christmas 2024 cruise that is slated to stop in Nasssu on Christmas Day — from experience, does anyone know what will be open / available on the island? Should I mentally prepare for an on-board day?
I have no first hand experience but my guess is things will be very limited. There may be a few excursions that you can book through DCL but I’ll bet a lot of the port and surrounding businesses will be closed.
And then I got curious and decided to look it up and based on a TripAdvisor post I found it looks like the street just next to the port is completely closed to prepare for their big holiday Junkanoo parade that apparently happens overnight from Dec 25th to Dec 26th (also a Holiday for Bahama, Boxing Day).
So I would prepare to make it an onboard day as well, especially if you’re not excited about the limited options for excursions. But I imagine you will still be able to go out into the port and look around at whatever may be open.
For our Christmas cruise on the Fantasy, Christmas Day was a sea day so we didn’t have to worry about closures in ports. But there was so much to do on board. Santa was meeting guests in the morning. There were cookies and hot chocolate in the atrium and carollers singing. Plus a special menu for dinner. Oh and special photo opportunities and character meets. I would imagine that a lot of that would be happening on your cruise even though it is a port day.
I have no experience, but could suggest you ask this on DISboards or even cruise critic. They both have a larger group of cruise contributors.
@lolabear_la should work for the FBI.
And - you just gave me a reason to consider another DCL cruise - I hadn’t thought about doing a Very Merry cruise. And DD graduates in December next year. Hmmmmmm.
The Very Merrytime theming was great. I never finished my trip report last year but I should dig up some of the holiday photos and share them. I don’t have them on my current phone so I can’t do it right now.
Excellent suggestions! I’ll bet there will be multiple accounts on each of those!
Agent Lola, I like the sound of that. I’ll have to take a page outta your book from your Marvel dinner night on adding more black/tactical and especially sunglasses to my wardrobe.
