Upgrading Universal APs

We have three APs. Two of them expire this month, the 3rd in December since at one point I guess I bought APs but only got the free extra months on my son’s. Yup, I have messed up AP purchases in the past.

I am thinking of renewing one AP this month. I have a trip next month, and I need it. My issue is that I already have flights for a trip that will include Epic. If they do offer APs that include Epic, how do I upgrade? Am I remembering correctly that Unjversal does not prorate upgrades?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’ll be interested to see if anyone knows this answer too! Just my guess, but I think they will have to allow very easy upgrade to a pass with Epic (with associated cost). Otherwise they will alienate everyone who hasn’t let their AP expire. I am nervous that they will not prorate. Our AP expires in February. Assuming AP offered in January, if they don’t prorate, it won’t be worth it for us to add Epic versus buying single day tickets for our trip. I can’t imagine they will prorate. But it would be nice.

I have two unactivated passes that I bought 2 years ago when they last had the 15 month deal. I’m hoping to get back to UOR December 2026, and be able to add Epic Universe to those passes. I’m hoping the price add on isn’t too crazy.

I have been trying to guess at the price. Who knows. I’m thinking something like $200 to $300 to add, but that is pure speculation. I’m assuming more than a single day ticket, but hoping less than the cost of 2 days?

Honestly, I would just call their help line (CS) b/c they are pretty GREAT about taking care of things and having answers. One time I missed a discount by a month and called nicely asking if I could get it anyways b/c I missed it somehow and they fix it for me  :two_hearts:

My MIL accidentally bought a 12 month pass when they had the special for the 15 month pass. I was able to call and get her pass made into the 15 month pass.

oh yeah, that was the one I missed out on, and they made it good :two_hearts:

I’m anxious to get back into a Universal AP pass (last one expired 18 months ago) but waiting to see if they will release an AP with Epic. I think it’s safe to assume that any upgrades to include Epic for current holders won’t be prorated, I know moving up a level now (such as season to preferred) don’t get prorated, you pay the gap and your expire date stays the same.

When I upgraded my 2 park pass to a three park pass a few years ago, they did not prorate it. I (sadly) let my AP lapse since a timeline for the epic upgrade hasn’t been announced

It is annoying since I can lock in a AP room discount but as of today I can only get Epic tickets if I book a room/ticket package with no discount.

Are most Universal trips planned in less than 3 months?

Len posted on another thread that Universal is limiting tickets to Epic. If they extend the single day tickets, I need APs to be activated for all members of my party? I am trying to decide if I should just renew future DILs too.

When are you planning to go? I have seen epic single day tix become available again after selling out. I also believe they are still selling them at the gate. Therefore, not sure I would renew a pass strictly for getting epic tix unless it makes sense to renew over all

Well, you do have 30 days after expiration to renew. Maybe we will know something this month about the direction they are heading. Or at least maybe we’ll be able to see next year’s tickets by then?

Are you asking this about buying AP discounted tickets? Yes, I think that if you do buy discounted tickets, everyone who uses them must have an AP. Is that what you’re asking?

Thanks, I have a trip this weekend, and next month for HHN. I am not planing Epic until next April so no single day tickets are available.

Yes, that was what I was asking. Len’s comments regarding keeping attendance down has me think g they may need to extend the single day ticket offer instead of adding new APs.

I am planning a team offsite in mid-January and our hotel is a Universal partner hotel and the group ticket sales rep can’t give me group discount information as 2026 prices aren’t out yet. It’s less than 4 months away!

That’s crazy!

I did want to note that the renewal price for 2025 was the exact same price as 2024.

An update from my Universal group sales guy. He’s saying that they are expecting 2026 pricing for tickets in “late October”

I received an AP survey the other day and it asked me how I felt about AP benefits. Single day Epic tickets were listed as a benefit. I hope that means at least they will continue.

Is this just for tickets purchased through the AP or for general public Tix as well?
