Unrealistic Touring Plan for Magic Kingdom

The touring plan I created for Magic Kingdom just does not seem realistic. Even though April 28th is projected to be a crowd level of 4, some of the wait times seem very low. A little background: I started with 8 or 9 attractioins and a couple of breaks just to see what would be generated. The results suggested I could add more items so I did just for the grins. I kept adding until I started getting the “may not make it to all of the events on time…” than I backed out one or two. I originally had it optimize my plan and then I moved things around to better group some of the attractions.

Important: My post got bashed when I put it on a Disney facebook group because folks said my plan was not realistic. I could not seem to convince folks that I already knew that… and that I was simply trying to get feedback regarding the unrealistic plan that TouringPlans created. (By the way, I submitted a ticket to their support group but have not heard back).

Here is the link to my plan: Magic Kingrom Plan for 4/28/25 (No Lightning Lanes)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I should have noted that after the system optimised my plan, I moved things around and had the system evaluate from then on.

I think it’s reasonably realistic except for Peter Pan and maybe Jungle Cruise. Are you rope dropping PPF?

I’d definitely agree about Jungle Cruise at that time of day.

What do you have walking speed set at?

It does seem as tho there’s a lot getting done with this plan. We’d never get this much done but we’re like oh, look - a character. Or quartet. Or Castle show. There’s a restroom

I always do as slow as possible on the walking selection. If the walkways are crowded you’re forward progress is slower. This plan is crisscrossing the park at least 3 times?

Another issue I see is that the walk out and back isn’t accounted for around your lunch break. Probably because it was added as a break, which for TP is devoid of location so it doesn’t calculate (something that is annoying to me too). Could you make it from the back of the park out to the Poly and then back to People Mover in 90 mins? Maybe if you walk way faster than my family, but there is about 15 mins of walking each way not accounted for. I usually add in a meal close to where I will be during a break (so, front of park) or do 2 touring plans before/after.

This is still having you get to PPF during early entry. The other attractions (except JC), maybe a little more wait time than shown but not crazily so.

Agree with this

Also, I love the “slow walk down Main Street” step! I wish every day started like that. :star_struck:

Thanks for your reply. It’s a bit of a stretch to say we are rope dropping PPF because it’s important for us to first take a slow stroll down Main Street to take it all in. Nothing better than turning that corner upon entry and seeing the Castle at the end of Main Street. But, having said that, we are planning to take advantage of early entry and doing PPF as our first attraction.

One other thing to note. We will likely purchase MPLLs seven days out which could change everything. (This plan does not use MPLL)

Thanks for your reply. Currently the Walking Speed is set to Relaxed. I agree that changing the speed to Very Relaxed is a good idea to help offset TP’s overly optimistic wait times. I also agree that we need to build in some “stop and smell the roses time.” All four of us in our party agree that we don’t want it to be rush-to-get-all-you-can-done. (This will be our fifth WDW trip together since 1993 - and we have each gone on other trips throughout the years. Restrooms?
Don’t get me started! That is my wife’s favorite attraction!

As you note, there is some back and forth across the park but my sister and brother-in-law would like for us to minimize wait time even if it means some extra walking. (We are blessed to be healthy 72-73 year olds.)

Thanks WildernessLodger. You are correct. I originally had 2 hours for us to leave MK, go over to Polynesian, eat a QS meal at Captain Cook’s, and also grab a Shave Ice or Dole Whip. Can’t recall the circumstances that caused me to change it to 90 minutes. I may even make it 2.5 hours and treat it as a real rest break…maybe riding the Resort Monorail all the way around to get back to MK.

How did you add your notes “slow walk down main street” or “dole whip then lunch…” I see how we can add notes, but I don’t know how to add these as an actual step. So cool!

Ahhhhh, you can add it as a BREAK! I never noticed that and I’ve been using this website for years.

I really don’t see any issues with this plan. Your “slow walk down Main street” still has you in the PPF queue before 9:00 a.m. when the park opens to day guests. During EE, the crowds are going to head to 7DMT, Tron, Jungle Cruise, etc. The people ahead of you in the PPF queue are the ones that were had the head of the rope drop crowd to the super headliners, and much of the EE crowd is still going to be in those lines.

Unless you posted to a “Liners” Facebook group, you are going to be ridiculed for trying to do too much. I suspect amongst your responses were that they lines would be too line because its during spring break, I’d never go at that time, blah blah blah…

My mantra is always “trust the touring plan…trust the touring plan…”. TouringPlans has much more information on the parks than everyone on Facebook does that doesn’t work at TouringPlans, and they aren’t going to steer you wrong. Even if there is a ride breakdown or weather issues, you’ve added buffer times, so I think you are going to be fine. Have fun!

I had the same issue in early December and reached out to the TP administrator. They wrote back and said they had been having issues. It looks like those issues might be continuing. I will be there tomorrow and my plan looks completely unrealistic to me. Not sure fiddling with walking speed and breaks will do much good. Thankfully I have ~15 years of experience that I will have to rely on. I’m a bit concerned this has been going on so long and still isn’t fixed, but again, perhaps it isn’t TP and we will all have a magical time with extremely short waits for 7 Dwarfs, PPF, etc. all morning long.

Thanks molga001,

Looks like tomorrow (Sun Jan 26th) is projected at a crowd level of 4 just the same as my date (April 28th). Really looking forward to you reporting your experience back to this thread. Would love to see what your actuals are compared to the touring plan. Have fun!!

Just following up after our recent trip to confirm that the Magic Kingdom plan didn’t resemble reality in any way. That being said, it had been really cold and rainy earlier in the week so maybe the crowd levels were higher? I ended up buying the MLL the night before so at least we had that for PPF but because now people can get those 7 days in advance, that wasn’t great either (mostly got them for afternoon and evening then they were all sold out). No ILLs available. But back to the TP plans. My plan had 7 Dwarfs at 8:35 and we were indeed in line by 8:35. TP said the wait would be 7 min. and it was 35 min. TP said we would next do Space for 6 min., Mermaid for 8, and PPF for 22. While we were waiting for 7 Dwarfs, the posted sign said 65 for it and the WDW app said 55 for PPF, 45 for Pooh, etc. so it was just a normal day at MK. Sorry to confirm that TP just isn’t working in the mornings. That was true in December and it is still true. The day before we were at Epcot and everything was intermittently down / offline so it was hard to say. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Remy, Figment, Spaceship, Guardians, etc. That threw off any plan since everyone had to adjust accordingly. The virtual queues sold out for Guardians within 3 seconds at both 7 and 1. I confirmed this with a cast member. But, we had a great day at both parks and just went witth it. The relatively lower crowd levels in Dec. and Jan. make it feasible to do that with enough experience, willingness to walk A LOT, and flexibility. Good luck!

Thanks for the follow-up molga001 - even though it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. TP sure can’t be blamed for the snafus at Epcot, but your MK experience really does confirm TP’s overly optimistic predictions.

I think I’ll probably still use it to some extent (in conjunction with other tools like ThrillData.com) but when I manually transfer things over to my own little cheat sheet card will triple or quadruple their estimates. What a shame; could be such a great tool.

Thanks again.
