Universal hotel pricing questions

I’ve been scouting prices for a group trip this fall. Because it’s a group, decisions aren’t happening quickly so I’ve had to update the prices I’m finding on hotels several times. I noticed that the price has been increasing on the hotel for the dates we want. It says it’s still the same deals that it’s been showing me the whole time. (Either Flexible or “Stay more save more” depending on the date variations I’m looking at..)

My question is whether the prices are actually going up $100+ every week, or if Universal is doing some sort of surge pricing because it knows I keep looking at the same rooms and it wants me to buy soon because I’m worried about more price hikes. Prices are up to $500 more than when I first started tracking at the beginning of the month. They were halfway higher when I checked a couple of weeks ago so it seems like a consistent slow increase.

Have I lost out on getting a good deal? Do I need to wait for a new discount/sale to come up or for something to reset? We’re booking Oct dates and I’m pretty sure the price won’t keep going up $100 a week until then but I’m not sure where the price cap is and when I might still be able to get the best price.

I believe the Universal Hotels (Loews owned) have dynamic pricing. I do not know if it is user specific to what you see. It may be that availability is getting lower as time goes on. It is not the same as Disney’s set pricing. If you are seeing increases, I would book sooner rather than later. But I don’t know when they offer discounts or if they are as somewhat consistent as WDW is. Someone may be able to chime in more on that.

October is a popular time at Universal because of Horror Nights. That can also be a factor.

I generally book right away and then continue to check prices. You can always cancel/re-book if you find a lower price.

January 1st so saw a $200 increase between checking airlines and booking. Today, that same room is $200 more than when I booked.

Sometimes there will be drops, especially closer to your trip. Check often.

Ran into similar issues for Universal Orlando package for mid Feb 2026, starting pricing late July 2025 and price just kept creeping up, price only came down once Universal released a promo that my dates fell under

I just checked and the room I booked 3 days ago has dropped in price today. It’s for mid April. Not a huge drop, $70 over 5 days, but that almost buys me a new wand!!

Do you modify to see the price difference or just price out a new reservation? New to Uni and we will be there around your dates as well.

I just price out a new one, book if it’s cheaper, then cancel the other.

I check the rates every morning. They can fluctuate a lot. If the rate drops at the hotel I’ve booked, I just modify it. You can call or do it online. To modify online you have to change the reservation. I just reduce the number of guests by 1, and then readjust after I’ve rebooked. If you’re modifying to a different hotel, you have to cancel and rebook with a new deposit.

Ahhh, good phone call free strategy.

I always just rebook and then cancel. Uni always processes a credit to my credit card.

Me too. Sometimes I do this as a way to manage my credit card payments. I cancel and rebook so I can float a month of cash on my credit.

(Only if the rate is better, of course.)

 It’s like using their money for the deposit!

I’ve looked at some Oct 2026 dates at Universal and the resort prices have been high (significantly higher than when I stayed at HRH in early November a couple years ago). I suspect UOR is testing to see how high they can go with resort pricing now that Epic is in full swing.

I’ve looked at end of September 2026 dates and found the same. Prices seem extra high compared to what I’m used to at the same resorts.

I think prices are higher generally, but I have found good deals at one of the four nicer hotels for my dates, and it seems to be a different hotel for different dates. Like maybe they try to manage which hotel they are driving bargain hunters to. For my dates the deal was at Helios (which doesn’t have EP but has its own benefits). Whereas other dates it might be RPR, HRH, or PBR.
