TouringPlans Survey is...really looooong

So, TouringPlans sends out post-trip surveys. And, well…they are SO LONG…I’ve honestly never completed one. I got two this time…one for the first 5 nights of our trip, and then one for the final night, because I had a kinda split stay (same resort, but had to move room types).

Am I the only one who finds the survey too exhaustive…and exhausting!..to fill out?

I did run into a few issues, too. One of the pages where you had to rate things, if you clicked on something, there is no way to unclick. I clicked on something accidentally that didn’t apply, and there was no way to undo it…so I would have been forced to rank something I had no experience with. There was also a question in there that none of the answers actually applied. Forget now, off hand, which it was.

Ultimately, I doubt my answers will have much bearing on the overall rankings of things.

Yes. It is very very long. I usually only fill out part of it, mainly the hotel and meals but honestly haven’t filled it out in a while. I’ve been three times in the last ten months and am not going to take the time to do it for every trip

It is.

I’ve complained about it before

I don’t even bother starting them anymore because I don’t have 3 hours to dedicate

I thought the last one I took was much shorter.

Totally agree!! They want me to rank every single eatery, ride and show offered at the parks!

I understand the need to collect a lot of data to be able to have meaningful survey results, but it really IS a lot to ask. Rating just the things you actually did on the trip would be much better - and give more timely/accurate results (how can I seriously rate a restaurant that I went to once 10 years ago, and is it even the same menu, service, etc.).

Plus, the requests for all your room information and pictures!

I’ve said it before (in other threads) & I’ll say it again… I’m happy to submit data, but I don’t work for free. Incentivize me with a renewal discount or something for submitting a certain number of wait times or survey responses.

Nah that’s not necessary. The subscriptions are already very affordable. And it’s not like I’m spending even an hour to send a room pic, and wait times are easily submitted in the course of your day.

It’s not really about the money - the TP sub is what I’d spend on lunch most days

For me, it’s about the principle. TP wants me to submit all this data that they then use to sell more subscriptions. I need to be compensation for that effort - no matter how minor the work was. I figured a renewal discount is probably the most “affordable” way TP could do that! Plus, it encourages a subscriber to renew!

That’s just my “hot take” though!  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Do you feel that way about all product surveys and similar?

Do you feel only other people benefit from your sharing, or do you think you could also benefit by sharing since they use your info to refine their product?

Yes! I’ll do your survey if you want to give me a free coke / sandwich / discount code and etc…

I spend 40+ hours a week on these forums giving all my insights on UOR/WDW and answering so many questions for free. I also ask my own questions at times! This is an open source for information between individuals.

TP isn’t publishing or reselling anything I post here! (Even though I’ve written some pretty darn good guides / informational threads!)

I know we’ve had this same debate before when I mentioned submitting data to TP. I hope you don’t think I’m trolling you or anything. We may just have to agree to disagree! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

My last survey was definitely shorter than in the past, but I did run into the problems @ryan1 had with not being able to “uncheck” something. Also we should only be asked to give opinions on what we actually rode/ate/experienced. Looking at the missive of information that the Unofficial Guide has become, I am not surprised at the depth of detail and length of the survey tbh.

I know others that feel the same way. I personally, don’t. I have received so much more from Touring Plans supporting both chat and the forum, than I could ever give. I committed years ago to try to submit wait times, send photos (when I remember), and help others in this community. In schools we talk about “filling each other’s buckets”. It will take me a lifetime to fill TPs bucket to the level they have filled mine.

And then those buckets get heavy with feeling obligated to return the favor, and pretty soon the burden is overbearing and you collapse under the weight, unable to carry on . . . .

These have helped me so much. Since it is not part of the service you pay for, I see TP as helping us internet strangers crowd source the data.

I’ve struggled a bit more with times lately. But I still try to submit when I am at an unusual time (new Tron system at RD, 7DMT during fireworks) mostly because being able to see those green dots of other people’s submitted times has been helpful lately.

I don’t think this is how they teach it at school

In all seriousness, you’ve got to figure out how to fill other’s buckets without emptying yours. Key life skill.

Which is why I time rides so infrequently now.

I like the little achievements you can earn for wait time submission. I am in line anyway and its fun to be a part of a product I enjoy. The gamification was enough to hook me.
