Hello Disney People… do you call yourselves Disney Adults? That’s an ongoing topic of questioning if you are a Disney adult or just an adult that loves Disney…. But that’s not why I’m here. I’m hardly ever here anymore. I want to hear from the Disney brain trust because you all have the collective ability to dissect and discuss like no other group I know. I am about to let my AP lapse for the first time in over 10 years. I’m not sure how I feel about it. Here are the details that I’m thinking about and then I’d love to hear what y’all think.
We’ve been in Europe for two years now sailing around the Mediterranean. We have returned to the states twice for a brief time and spent time at WDW (landing in MCO) but returning to see family (children, grandchildren). We used our DVC points and APs to our travel advantage.
We are DVC owners (Aulani). We are keeping it for now, but I wouldn’t mind selling the contract.
The last time I allowed an AP to lapse (husband and son) the pandemic happened and we moved to FL and spent way too much money buying tickets for those two guys to go into the parks w/ me
I can afford to renew my AP but feel like it’s possibly a waste of money. Living on a boat FT is spendy. We just spend 2300 euros on boat paint
We just got a long stay VISA for France and it’s renewable (VLS-TS). We do not know when we will be returning to the states. But not for a few years; it’s too expensive there
@stlouie told me that DLP has APs… I’m not “there” yet. There are more important places that I want to see more than DLP, plus we will be on the Med side of France.
Okay… Go!
Below is HeiHei and the first of seven coats of paint (primer and antifouling)
My general rule is that if I have at least 2 trips planned within a 12-month period and there is a reasonable possibility of a third, I will get an AP.
Otherwise, I think you are better off just buying tickets as you go.
If you follow this rule, there may be a year here and there where you overpay for day tickets. But in the average year, you will come out ahead vs. always having an AP.
Thank you! This sounds reasonable, plus I forgot to mention that we would be able to get military tickets, if those are still around and that does save some cash.
Your life is an adventure! It sounds so fun to do what you’re doing now.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think I would buy the AP in your situation. I think it gives you more freedom to explore as you decide you want to, and you can always (usually ) get one when you’re reasonably sure it makes sense again.
There are tons of things to see (and eat) in France! But you must go to DLP once while you are in France.
Agree! For me, if there are only two trips in 12 months, each trip needs to have 5-6 park days to break even. The discounts with the AP will be the whipped cream and cherry on top!
Thank you, I think ‘she’ is too …. I think all sailing vessels are ‘she’s’…. but HeiHei is male so calling our s/v a “he” makes sense too???
oh yes, it WILL HAPPEN. I”ve been looking at packages on the DLP site already and looking for snow. I think snow on the castle would be magical (sigh)
I thank you and @Jeff_AZ for doing the math for me, the real math…. not Disney math which is always about feelings
It is an adventure. When is your trip to Nice? but let’s discuss more economical ways to be a vagabond traveler b/c owning a sailboat can be a heavy financial lift. Even if it is our home/house. Owning a house is less expensive. Anyway, we have plans still and places to see. I do love my little house though
Every once in a while, I go through my IG account and look back at the past two years and am amazed at where we have been and what we have done. I’m truly grateful, happy and amazed.
yeah, we’ve heard that but I don’t get it b/c I was soooo scared when DH found the boat I say, only some houses are money pits but all boats are money pits, but that’s not funny.
