Tips for midday breaks: All Star Sports and Surfside?

Hello, Friendly People,

Does anyone have any tips on midday breaks staying at either All Star Sports or Surfside? (My apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place. I can repost as directed.)

We’re a family ranging in age from 18 to 51, splitting our stay between Surfside (4 nights) and ASSp (5 nights). While we are normally rope-drop-to-park-close maximizers, we’ve never done the FL parks in August, and I want to build in midday breaks of 3-4 hours. But I’m not sure that it’s worth the time commitment to use park transportation to and from these resorts in the middle of the day. The main goal here is to maximize the break by reducing transportation time, and we don’t mind walking.

In case park transportation is slow, I’ve made a backup plan for resorts that are closer to the parks (walkable, I think) at which we could at least grab a snack, sit in a quiet spot and rest our eyes for a bit:

  • MK: walk to Contemporary
  • DHS: walk to Boardwalk
  • EP: walk to Beach Club
  • USF: walk to Portofino Bay
  • IOA: walk to Royal Pacific
  • Epic: walk to Helios

Thoughts? Thank you in advance.

That will work. Also monorail/boat to Poly or GF (or walk to GF).

Walk works but boat would work too if you are going to Boardwalk, swan/dolphin, Yacht or Beach Club. Also skyliner to any of the skyliner resorts.

These both work but you are walking past Hard Rock to get to Portofino. You can also take the boat to these resorts or Sapphire Falls.

Yes, but I think they did ask me once why we were going there. We had a lunch reservation.

Agree that these are all possibilities.

At UOR I’d take the boat over walking if the objective is to rest!

But overall I would still vote for heading to the resort itself, especially if you have 3-4 hrs.

We had a four-night stay at ASMo once and took the buses back for a break each day - it was just so much more restful to hop in the pool or take a nap in our room than just sit down somewhere for a meal. I’ve stayed at all All Stars, and the buses are among the best on property - very frequent and does not feel too long.

Enjoy!

Agreed. If you are going to take a shorter break and just want some air conditioning, there are places within each park or in nearby resorts that you identified that will do the trick.

Thank you, @NTEI and @Jeff_AZ , it’s good to hear that the trip to and from ASSp is not too bad if we are really needing to lie down!

I just returned from a trip with my sister, and we stayed at All Star Sports and the busses were phenomenal! We live in NY, and the Florida heat was no joke. We returned to the hotel everyday to cool off, shower, and change our clothes before we headed back to the parks for the night and it was well worth it! We also planned a TS everyday to get out of the heat. And when we were at Epcot or MK, we took a monorail tour and got some AC to cool off. We jumped off at GF or Contemporary to look around for a bit.
