Oh, man, I wish so much that the emphasis and investment on this kind of entertainment would come back.
The live actors definitely make the parks feel so vibrant. Even in 2017, my first visit to Disneyland, the number of walk around characters, shows and parades blew me away.
It sounds like Epic Universe has figured this out too!
What we are seeing is a transformation of Theme parks moving from family centric towards thrill centric. DLR and WDW are not alone in this trend. @ryan1 might have enough history with Kings Island (Cincinnati OH) to have witnessed the same trend.
Yeah, the thrill rides definitely seem like they’ve picked up in my lifetime. It’s a bummer for me, as I’ve always liked the non-or-lower thrills but I know that it’s exciting for others and why some have become bigger fans during that time, so at least it’s bringing joy to a bunch of people! I think the only “new” ride I really love is flight of passage and I imagine that that is the wonder/joy/high that other folks get off the bigger coasters and such!
