Definitely but I wouldn’t bother doing that unless you already needed to split your party. I wouldn’t divide a group of 7 into 3 groups, for example — I’d just do two groups of 3 and 4. But it is good information to have in case it’s relevant.
Do we know approximately what percentage of guests purchase G+? If it’s under 50% which is my guess then maybe availability won’t be a huge issue, since we’re used to thinking about FPP when nearly 100% booked. @len
I think at first they were saying 30%? Maybe I’m misremembering. Or might have changed since launch.
Interesting. So having a larger party can significantly affect one’s ability to book LL drops? I figured it would affect a little maybe, but not that much haha
My current plan is to try to take maximum advantage of the drop times for the rides. Currently we are just a party of 4, but there is the possibility of 3 others joining us. So I’m just researching how that might affect us
I’d believe it. If that’s the case I’d imagine availability will still be decent.
In the 2022 Q3 earnings call, Chapek said about 50% of WDW guests purchased Genie+. I don’t believe any later statistics regarding % of guest purchasing Genie+ has been released.
30% was reported the first 6 months after introducing G+. Now I feel the percentage is far above 50% for those visiting MK and HS (I would guess closer to 70% especially among people visiting during morning hours).
For Epcot and AK, 25-30% would seem a good guess.
But that was also when you could purchase in advance and it was only $15. A higher price and purchasing daily could lower it.
To your point, I have found LL availability to be decent most days. If you know the drops and keep checking for random availability, you can usually get through all the attractions in a park in a day.
If you are 4, you’ll be fine. If you are 7, you will just want to split your party in two when applying for a LL at drops. I think the max I’ve gotten to work on a drop is 6.
ETA: the reason for this is that Genie+ dispenses 6 LLs per 5-minute increment during drops. Genie+ will not give some of your party one increment and the rest the next increment. It will only dispense a LL to your party for the next available window that can accommodate all of you. But you can apply separately and get one window for 4 of you and one window for 3 of you, most likely with a return time just 5 minutes later.
I agree. My concern is future state with length of stay pre-booking and tiers. I don’t want them to change. Availability was so good last week I didn’t even need the drops.
Ah yes I am concerned about that as well.
Thank you for the detailed response. Exactly what I needed to hear.
Whatever happens with the new changes coming to G+, I hope they do something to actually, literally, really simplify it!!! My Sister and her DH are planning a trip and I attempted to explain G+ and LL’s and ILLs and…they were just like…what? It was like I was speaking another language. For your average, busy family, Genie is ridiculousness. They don’t have time to study that system. They just want to go to Disney, ride rides without having to wait 2 hours in line, or have the ride break down, swim in the pool, and eat food. I told her they could “Rope Drop” to get some good rides in. This is their third Disney trip since 2019 and my sis said they have never rope dropped and just didn’t think that would be possible. Disney needs to be able to make their parks work for THIS type of family because my guess is, 85% of families are this type of guest.
On the other end of the spectrum, my brother took his daughter to MK for the first time in Feb and LOVED G+ and took right to it! I told him changes are coming and he said he wanted G+ to keep being hard to use so he can use all the tricks to ride everything! But he’s always been the type of person to start a fire just to watch it burn haha.
It certainly ain’t simple, if you want to use it really well. I’ve got my family almost annoyed with me, since I love sharing every G+ trick that I learn with them… and they aren’t coming on this trip haha
I’ve had this same conversation with multiple friends over the past 2 years. One told me her travel agent emailed her a 7 page document to read about G+ and ILL!
This is probably what WDW is realizing, but I’m not sure the system described in the survey helps much (if at all). It trades one set of issues (like 7:00 am wake ups) for another set (like big disadvantages for shorter stays) and likely doesn’t reduce the complexities.
I think 50% is the default number we’ve assumed for G+ purchases.
We’ve also tried to quantify that by counting the number of guests in the LL at each attraction.
The two confounders there are:
- VIP Tours, which are relatively small and can probably be discounted
- DAS use, which is probably wayyyyy higher than a lot of people think.
Hi all. With the unfortunate passing of BG1 two weeks before my trip… any advice for MDE? Lol. I loved spamming the refresh button on BG1, going to miss that the most ![]()
Hi all-
Looking for current LL drop times.
Found some on another site but they are not accurate. I don’t know why I didn’t just come here first.
Any current drop time information is much appreciated!
TIA!
