My understanding was the move to Patreon was just for their paid bonus content. Plus they were launching a video series with Imagineer Jim Shull that was better suited for Patreon.
I was presuming their normal podcast would be unaffected by the move though, although I certainly could be mistaken about that.
Oh that’s good to know. I only ever knew Patreon to be a PAY site
I still don’t see myself going to multiple podcast platforms for content. I like that my shows autopopulate to my feed when there is new content, and I know I would end up just phasing it out even if I tried to maintain listenership on a separate platform.
I subscribe to a few podcasts that have a Patreon. They still release through all the major platforms — Apple, Spotify, etc. — and you just either pay for a Patreon membership or you don’t. If you pay, you get bonus content and perks. If you don’t, you just get the regular episodes.
Every podcast makes their own decisions regarding what is paid and what is not, so I suppose it’s possible they could make Disney Dish only available to paid subscribers, but I doubt it.
We’ll stop updating shows on Bandcamp on Jan 1, 2024.
We’re in the process of moving all the old shows over to Patreon. One advantage to that is that we get to add dates, tags, and text to the shows.
We can’t automatically move subscribers over from Bandcamp to Patreon. So if you’d like to continue following the show, and see the new video shows, that’s a manual thing you have to do on Patreon.
Let me know if anything looks off on Patreon, too, please. There’s a lot of moving parts right now as we try to address all of the issues around usability on the old Bandcamp platform.
We never dis usswd this butnon this week’s episode did @len say that the surveys floated the idea of a $289 delixe resort stay if Disney got to pick the resort? Because I think I would take that gamble every time.
But I am so curious to know more. When do you find out where you are staying - it would definitely impact ADRs. Is it cancelable? Or like hidden deals on discount sites? I am so intrigued.
And I know this group would keep data on what resort people are most likely to get (I predict AKL, WL, and Contemporary Garden, maybe Rivieria as they still own a lot of the inventory).
That was what I heard as well - bargain price, but they pick the Deluxe resort. Agree that when you know where you’re staying is very important - would have to be pre-60 days to make planning optimal. Although I guess if I got a good enough deal, I could work around that.
Given the cheapest, no special discount search, for a random 4 day weekend in February I just did was $551 at AKL - that price point becomes very intriguing…
When I heard that, it seemed like Disney may be considering their own “Priceline Express Deals”-like option of selling empty rooms on short notice at a reduced rate, but Disney assigns your hotel. For those who typically stay at moderates, it could be an option to get a cheap(ish) upgrade.
