Standby Skipper vs. Thrill Data Wait Magic

Never used either of these. Just wondering if you think they’re worth using and if so, which is better?

A lot of us like Thrill Data as an alternative to TP

I’ve never used either. I think Standby Skipper is more manual with real people booking stuff for you, while Thrill Data is automated. At least, that is my impression from what I’ve heard about the services. Don’t quote me on that.

The most recent Disney Deciphered podcast covered this topic, sometime during the second half of the show. One host had used SS before but preferred TD after using it last month.

I have used both, TD Wait Magic most recently this last week and it is far superior and robust than SS. Happy to answer any questions.

Why do you prefer wait magic over SS? Is it more automated?

I’ve never used SS but I used TDWM for my trip last month. It was excellent for modifying return times during the pre-booking window and very decent at finding return times while I was in the parks. I also used @antirobo1 ‘s bot. The bot blew away TDWM for finding return times while I was in the parks. That bot is excellent and @antirobo1 was super hands-on and helpful too. With the weather being what it is in August, I had so many MEPs and LLs I couldn’t even use them all by the end of the day. From now on, I’ll be using TDWM for the prebooking period and, if the bot is still functioning :crossed_fingers: I’ll use that while I’m in the parks.

What is the bot, please? I’m new.

It’s much more powerful. You can prioritize searches. You can modify already booked searches by several different time designations including individual hours. You can use it in the 7 day window between buying your LLMP and using it. Plus, it seems to work more reliably than SS. I had used SS three or four times in the past and there were a few times where I had an open LL but it didn’t automatically book and I ended up booking it faster myself. That never happened with WM, plus I even got very hard to get same-day LL like Slinky Dog.

While it seems that TD Wait Magic would be the better option because it allows you to pre-book things before your park day. It was absolutely worthless day of park visit at Epcot today. I’ve had much better luck with Standby Skipper in the past for booking and modifying day of. Really regretting going with Wait Magic this trip and not Standby Skipper.

Looking into WM for my next trip (have used SS several times with success). Why did you find WM not useful in the park? Ive heard WM can not only modify but also helps with single passes which SS cannot do either of those thing so I thought WM might be a better choice?

I used WM two weeks ago for booking and modifying LLMPs and LLSPs—mostly day of just because I didn’t set it up early enough for prebooking. It was never quick enough to grab a LL on a drop. But it did modify a couple LLMPs over four days and a GotG LLSP.

I think the TD+ subscription is worth it for wait magic plus the ad-free data and priority text dining notifications. I used the data to strategize rides (EE, LL, standby, etc). And got a text alert for a clutch dining reservation day-of. Wish I had used waitmagic during my prebooking period. Wait magic alone was helpful but I used it more as one piece of what TD offers.

I’ll 2nd all of this. The year subscription brings a lot of value, so I paid for it since it will.cover two trips. The pre-booking period was clutch in moving my EPCOT LL from PM to AM - otherwise they would have beem useless.

It also helped me get end of the day LL at MK. I appreciated being able to set my searches and have them book automatically.

Generally if I need to pick up something at a drop, I do it myself unless I can"t!

Welcome, thrilldata, to TP forums!

I have used your site for years and can’t imagine going to WDW/UOR without it!

I just purchased Wait Magic and set up my modifications for the LLMP & LLSP I purchased this morning. I’m wondering if I should split my party of 8 into two smaller parties for a better chance at getting LL modified?

I’ve used SS 3 or 4 times on previous trips and am so excited to see how Wait Magic fares in this capacity (especially with pre-booking as an option)!

I have never done WDW bookings with a party of 8, and I’ve made some big promises, so I’m just a little nervous about delivering! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

If you can figure out how to do it, splitting your party will definitely open up your options. It will make it a bit more complicated but you will be much more likely to pick up drops, etc. It should be doable to pick up compatible time slots for everyone, especially over multiple days in advance.

Thanks Jeff! I just created searches for 2 parties of 4 as priorities over my search for 8…fingers are crossed that some magic happens in the next 7 days to adjust what I’ve booked!

I have used both Standby Skipper in March 2025 and used Wait Magic a few weeks ago in October 2025. Wait Magic is superior and my new favorite now. Standby Skipper was a bit more user friendly with the app having pictures that were easy to click on for the parks and rides. They also gave you a notification when something was booked. Wait magic did take me several reads of the instructions to set up and I had a more tech familiar person in my family read the instructions with me. But once I did more reading on what the lingo meant - like what “Modify until stopped” means, it made sense. Wait Magic sends you a text message when something is newly booked. I edited the text tone on my phone for wait magic to be different, so when I heard the sound I was always happy that something had improved in my day. It was able to get me sold out rides and continuously searched for earlier and earlier times. It says it can select your original lightning lanes so you don’t have to get up early 7 or 3 days beforehand. I was too nervous to take the risk so I did wake up early and booked my original ones first, and it was set up to search for earlier times the full week before I went to the parks. And it backed up my toy story mania from 3 p.m. to eventually 10 a.m. For my trip in July I will use Wait Magic for sure because it has the ability to modify times and keep searching. Plus it has more time options- something I wished standby skipper had. You can be very choosy for what time frame you want wait magic to search for a ride- this is very helpful!
