Space 220 Opinion

I’ve never been to Space 220 and I’m wondering if it’s worth the money. How is the food? If you go for either lunch or dinner, instead of an appetizer and a meal do they allow appetizer and dessert as there’s really not much for appetizers I would actually eat.

Are you talking the restaurant or the lounge? The restaurant is prix fixe, while the lounge is a la carte. If you want to see what it’s like there and save money, do the lounge. I’ve been to the lounge a few times with friends, mainly for an afternoon snack (carrot cake) or an evening dessert. The desserts were fair to good.

The restaurant and the lounge seating is all in the same room, with the lounge seating a bit elevated and slightly further from the windows that look out into space. Some people like the view from the lounge better, since you can see a wider, overall view of space and the things that pass by.

I agree, we just went to the lounge and had a drink - my cocktail was excellent - and that was enough for us.

Like others, we did lounge. Allowed us to experience it without the cost. Kind of treated it like a quick service meal with a Space view.

I don’t think it would be worth the prix fixe prices.

ETA: It is worth adding that it is much harder to get an ADR for the lounge. It will need to be a top priority for booking, and ideally as far into the trip as possible.

Getting the restaurant is far easier… probably because not a lot of people want to pay the prices. When we went, the Lounge was fully booked, but the restaurant was mostly empty.

Worth noting that lunch is $24 cheaper because it doesn’t come wirh desert and the entrees are slightly smaller.

It was ok. However, the dark and constant humming sound made me feel lightheaded the whole time.

Adding on to the thread, has the hype died down? Is the lounge more accessible than it was two years ago?

Unsure…but for our trip in January, I was unable to get the Lounge at 60+5 days.

I tried booking the lounge at 60+1 in October but there was nothing left and I never saw any availability pop up when I checked in the preceding days. I decided to standby for a seat the bar on a Saturday around 6pm and waited around 15 min. Larger parties would likely struggle more.

The restaurant is much easier to get. The lounge is still a very elusive ADR.

I went there for lunch in 2022 and dinner yesterday:
Pretty decent food. The drinks are very good.
Service… sloooow. I blamed the postpandemic challenges the first time, but it continues to be a 2.5 hour experience. Yesterday, our dinner was 7 pm, we left at 9:40pm.

Is it worth it? I think it is, at least once, but that’s a personal decision. It is definitely pricey.

We did dinner there in March. The food was actually better than I anticipated because I wasn’t expecting much. The drinks were cute but pricey.

We went because my kid was so excited about it. The ambiance is neat for the first 30-45 minutes or so. We liked watching the Earth change from day to night.

However, our dinner took about 2 hours, which was too long for me. (Actually all of our dinner meals seemed slow this trip.)

I would go again to the lounge, if they still allow you to order off the main menu. I didn’t think the meal was worth $80+ dollars.

I got reservations at 60+1 and 60+5 during March spring break. We ended up being able to modify our 60+1 for a more desirable time a few days later and dropped the 60+5.

Same thoughts here! A drink and taking in the scenery was fun, as was the ride up and down. We wouldn’t bother doing it again though.

It’s "just ok… I didn’t love any of the desserts I tried and my cocktail wasn’t anything special. The atmosphere and elevator ride are the reasons to go. It’s like a lot of themed restaurants where you are going more for the experience than food. I’m happy I went, but it was one & done for me

The space elevator is definitely the best bit.

As to availability, I had no trouble booking the lounge last time I tried - which was Easter 2023, party of 3 - and when they decided another time would be better I set up an alert and was getting emails practically every day (being in the UK we don’t get texts so I kept missing it).

Same here - no trouble at all booking 60 days out - had lunch and it was really great! The elevator was very cool. We are heading to Disney again at the end of the year and plan to go again!

Also ADRs for the restaurant are easier to get than for the lounge.

I’ve been once (late lunch in restaurant) and wouldn’t do it again (unless I was joining someone else who moves it). We were two adults. I was underwhelmed by the space elevator and I think how well the screen effect works in the dining is very dependent on where they seat you within the room. It was about six months ago so I don’t remember exactly why but I know I didn’t love our food. Overall I would skip it but it seems like one of those things that really hits people in different ways, so you may love it!

Without giving away spoilers…something about the experience I did NOT like was how on the screen they would show things that were gimmicky and meant to be, perhaps, humorous. But it took me out of the experience. It stopped being a view of space and Earth at a space station. Realism was ruined.

I personally wish they would use the technology a bit better and have real-time rendering of actual weather and what the planet looks like based on when you are there. Make me feel like it is actually real. The technology exists to do that…and it would be very cool to see!

Anyhow, I am surprised Disney hasn’t switched away from the Prix fixe concept entirely. Seems like they would fill the place and make more money if they applied the lounge concept to the entire place.
