I am planning my second solo trip (!) for May 3-7, but this time I will include Hollywood Studios. I have two tickets with park hoppers that I am planning to use on Tues 5/4 and Thursday 5/6. On 5/4 I wanted to rope drop HS, spending a lot of time in GE, hop to EPCOT to say hello to a few favorites and dinner, and hop back to HS in time for Fantasmic (second show if there is one). If I want to avoid crowds/lines should I go to HS on a different day? Or will hopping away in the early evening be enough? The TP crowd calendar prediction for HS on 5/4 is only a 4. I know that predicts wait times but won’t crowds in GE add to wait times?
They’ll all be back in GE. The rest of the park will be normal
Check May the 4th last year to confirm crowd impacts, but I agree with @OBNurseNH it’s unlikely to make an impact outside SWGE.
Keep in mind that 2027 is the 50th anniversary of Star Wars so things will be a little heightened vs last year but I would be surprised if it is enough to impact wait times on other HS rides.
Since I want to spend a good amount of time exploring Galaxy’s Edge, I think I will do HS on a different day. Thanks, all.
Yay! I love solo trips. Enjoy the planning!
I don’t think May 4th is all that big of deal. Real historical crowds haven’t shown any change at HS versus other parks/days. And real SW fans knows May 25th is the more significant date.
There is nothing special about May 4th regarding Star Wars other than people like to say the pun.
I wouldn’t alter plans around it.
And even fewer people celebrate that day ![]()
Agreed!
Technically true, though I think you’re underselling it. It is a big fan-driven celebration, and there can be sizable gatherings at the parks. But you are right that in relative terms it’s not enough for the average guest to notice or be impacted, negatively or otherwise. At best you’d happen upon a lightsaber gathering near the Falcon after dusk, and that would be cool.
Most people who celebrate do so at home. We usually have homemade Wookiee cookies and watch something Star Wars related.
I know a LOT of big Star Wars fans. Not a single one cares two hoots about the day other than to say the line.
What is there to celebrate?
I am sure there is a very small number who decide to do something, much like Pi day. Although, I think Pi day has a much larger following. Can anyone resist pie?
It might be an age thing. On social media I see a lot of young folks posting about what they’re watching for Star Wars day.
May 4th is a bigger deal at DLR than at WDW. This past May, they had a Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Night. It was a separate after-hours party ticket from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am, with entry allowed at 6:00 pm. It had special character meets, a cavalcade, food/beverage, merchandise. But that is DLR.
So…is it a big deal…or do people just like after hours parties?
A combination of both? The May the 4th Star Wars Nite was the first to sell out, and all four Star Wars Nites eventually sold out. But I believe most after hours events at Disneyland generally sell out.

Maybe the photos I’ve seen of a packed Galaxy’s Edge on 5/4 were taken in DLR? Well, I will have hoppers so I suppose I could stick to my plan of doing HS that day and if it’s crowded I could hop to a different park and visit GE on another day. I really want to take some time to explore GE this trip as I haven’t spent much time there.
I would, at least to start.
If you’re mostly wanting to explore, the experience may be more fun with more fans walking around. Maybe more fans bounding as SW characters. There may be more meet and greets.
Get a snack and a bit of a wall to sit on and soak up the ambiance.
In the shade, of course
Or a BENCH. Are there benches in Star Wars? ![]()
Yes
and low walls around plantings that will accommodate an observing person.
