Shipping Items Home $$$$$

I purchased 6-7 ornaments from various Disney resort gift shops, along with one T-shirt & holiday reusable tote. As I wanted to make room in my suitcase, I decided to have the gift shop ship these items home to New England. It is not the weight of the parcel that dictates the price. It’s actually the total amount spent on these souvenirs. My one box ended up costing me $74.99 for it to be shipped and delivered within 7 to 10 business days via Ground. I had no idea it was going to cost that much, but by the time I got the total everything was done. Also, you cannot ship food, reusable mugs, or items purchased from the Disney character outlets. Just wanted to give people a heads up that, of course, shipping costs will vary per region/state, and it’s not the weight of the parcel. It’s the value of the contents. If you bring your own box and prepaid label, they can ship it for you.

Wow – I had no idea. I know people have had items sent home and don’t recall anyone paying that much! Pre-printing a flat rate box sounds like a good plan.

At that point buying another suitcase and checking it might have been cheaper!

I thought I had heard it was a flat rate of $40 to ship everything home but I guess that’s no longer true.

As I would have to use Uber or Lyft to go find somewhere to buy a suitcase then the cost of a new suitcase, and a second checked bag would be at least $50, it just wasn’t worth the aggravation, plus it would’ve ended up costing me a lot more

We bought a Mickey suitcase from the Contemporary store. I think it was about $90 but we wanted to pack the Star Wars helmet and droid to fly home. The box and backpack were just padded with clothes all the way round and we got a “fragile” sticker for the case at the airport.

Off topic, The funniest packing I did was a bottle of the George Washington whiskey from Mount Vernon which I nestled in the “dirty clothes” case. It was in a box and wrapped in bubble wrap when we said we were flying transatlantic. My reasoning was if it broke it would just soak the clothes that would be washed anyway once we got home. Worked beautifully! And even better, TSA chose the other suitcase to search.

I have often put a collapsible duffle in my suitcase for souvenirs. Then you can use it as a carry on since it’s delicate. Something to consider for next time as well.

We’ve done this, too, because we never know what we will be buying!

I remember seeing a small UPS store at Disney Springs last year. Let me find it.

(New Guest Shipping Station Now Available at Disney Springs)

I can’t tell online if it is still there.

Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever paid more the $14 to ship home. I thought there was a cap/max on shipping.

I just posted on another thread, last month at DL I paid $100 for shipping. I was only expecting $40 as it had been in previous years. I actually bought a luggage set on the trip, and checked one and shipped the other full of the more delicate souvenirs. At least if it breaks when you ship it, they will generally replace it.

*I blame all the candy from the Oogie Boogie Bash for me needing the second new suitcase :rofl::rofl:

Last month I shipped home the Muppets Christmas Carol advent calendar and a large Stitch Christmas figurine from WDW. Luckily they calculated shipping based on the AP discounted price, not the sticker price, or it would have bumped me from the $38 to $70 shipping. There was no way either of these would fit in my bag.

If you ever detour down to the character outlet at the Sawgrass Mall in Sunrise (closer to Ft. Lauderdale/Miami) then there is a UPS store next to the Target that the very helpful employees at the store informed us we purchased the Eye of Agamotto and Tesseract for literally half price that we couldn’t walk away from but had no idea of where in the suitcases we were going to fit it. I was feeling confident I could work it out so we didn’t use it, but it was nice to know that was an option.

So in case anyone else is also stopping that way (especially now with 2 DCL ships in Ft. Lauderdale it might come up for those of us that tend to like adding cruises to our Orlando adventures).

Ditto- but in our case it’s because we know we’ll be buying a mountain of stuff from KSC. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
